Contract - 12 months+ Our client, an established engineering consultancy operating in Huddersfield, requires an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer to join their multi-disciplined team. Due to the nature of our client's work and timescales involved this role would require candidates to possess active SC Clearance to start. Responsibilities
Carry out detail design activities to meet the requirements of design for manufacture Hand calculations and preliminary sizing of components, including material selection, gear rating, shaft and bearing analysis, rotor dynamics, other drive system elements including structural components, couplings, lubrication systems, relevant instrumentation and control systems CAD activities including conceptual design, 3D and 2D modelling. Create component and complex assembly drawings. Drawing and technical documentation checking. BOM and gear data generation and engineering change control processing Manufacturing drawings generation with a clear understanding and application of Design for Manufacture principles Create deliverable documentation including Manuals, Installation and Maintenance instructions as necessary Concession/Non-conformance assessment and resolution - including hand calculations as required, coordination with other specialist areas such as stress analysis; work with cross-functional teams to investigate non-conformance reports, develop corrective actions, and implement solutions to prevent recurrence Qualifications & Experience
Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related field 5+ years in an engineering design role/environment involving rotating machinery Experience in heavy engineering industry, power transmission systems, gears and gear boxes Knowledge of bolted joint analysis, shock assessment in relation to geared transmission systems Strong knowledge of quality management systems and industry standards (e.g., AS9100, ISO 9001) Strong core design skills with first principles methodologies Familiarity with structural design practices and hand calculations to support design Experience designing mechanical components, assemblies and subassemblies for heavy industry, power transmission systems Knowledge of subsystems that impact mechanical design and layout Proficient in 3D CAD; experience with Solid Edge preferred Ability to interpret and create high-quality engineering CAD models and manufacturing drawings, including GD&T Security & Eligibility
