You will deliver accurate technical drawings and specifications, resolve design issues, prepare technical reports, and participate in design reviews.
Applicants must be experienced designers comfortable with design software such as FORAN, possess a keen eye for detail, and demonstrate analytical and problem‑solving skills in challenging situations.
Flexibility and the ability to work autonomously or within a larger team, adapting to changing project requirements, are essential.
Responsibilities
Creation of CAD Models and Drawings: Producing detailed 2D and 3D CAD models and drawings to meet required standards.
Design Deliverables: Ensuring all design deliverables are completed accurately and on time.
Liaise with colleagues and stakeholders during appropriate design phases to ensure coordination and functionality of design.
Project Support: Contributing to and supporting the entire project and product design cycle, from concept to construction and installation.
Technical Support: Providing technical support during the construction and installation phases.
Perform self‑verification of work.
Reporting of technical progress and issues to line management.
Be aware of and ensure that safety, health and environmental requirements are implemented.
Assist with the maintenance and improvement in quality standards of outputs.
Change embodiment.
Qualifications
The candidate must hold an NC/HNC or an equivalent qualification/experience in a related discipline.
Apprenticeship in a relevant discipline or relevant industry experience.
Essential Skills
Proficiency in the use of one or more parametric/spec‑driven CAD systems in both 3D and 2D environments.
Ability to work to engineering design standards.
Desired Skills
Preferable T26 experience.
Familiarity with shipbuilding/ship‑repair terminology and practices.
Experience with FORAN and Windchill.
Experience
Experience in design processes and procedures specifically within detail design (stage 2 modelling/stage 3 outputs) on naval or commercial marine projects, preferably naval shipbuilding projects, new build, or major conversion packages.
Relevant experience from other industries including, but not limited to, oil & gas, process, manufacturing, defence, aerospace, rail, civil, and automotive.
