Role Accountabilities
Start and manage production and checking of complex electrical detailed designs, including calculations, specifications, reports and drawings.
Support and/or lead design and advisory services for new and existing water and wastewater process plants, pumping stations, and ancillary assets.
Ensure safety of self and others through design leadership and actions.
Provide technical delivery of multi‑disciplinary projects in a Design Lead capacity, using the latest digital design techniques.
Identify and develop innovative and optimised technical solutions based on client needs and drivers.
Lead and coordinate work with multi‑disciplinary teams (process, civil, structural, mechanical, electrical, and ICA).
Establish and grow relationships with clients and capital alliance partners on project technical, commercial and progress matters.
Ensure projects meet required technical, legislative, quality, safety and environmental standards and objectives.
Capture key project and technical knowledge, including innovations.
Promote MEICA team capability and achievements internally and externally.
Key Skills
Lead design phases (concept, outline, and detail) for ICA systems, adhering to international standards.
Expertise in ICA design (instrumentation, PLC, SCADA, motor control systems, fieldbus/communication networks, P&ID, ATEX, functional safety, URS/FDS).
Develop design basis, specifications, P&ID, system/network architecture, control philosophy, functional design, PLC/ICA subsections, wiring, schematic diagrams, I/O schedules, loop diagrams and instrument schedules.
Review and comment on ICA documentation to ensure compliance with plant design criteria and asset standards.
Participate in and manage inspection, testing and commissioning stages for ICA equipment and installations.
Attend factory acceptance tests for panels, PLC/HMI applications and SCADA systems.
Integrate electrical infrastructure design with ICA systems, ensuring contractor designs meet client specifications and industry standards (WIMES, IET wiring regulations, etc.).
Prepare and review specifications, datasheets, drawings and technical documentation.
Provide technical direction in project delivery, aligning with industry standards and client requirements, supporting technical client relationships and project pursuits.
Apply UK design standards, working practices and national guidance.
Maintain awareness of best practice and standards in cybersecurity for industrial automation and control systems.
Mentor junior team members, fostering professional growth and effective task delegation.
Lead multi‑disciplinary collaborative efforts to enhance team capabilities.
Qualifications & Experience
Degree in Electrical Engineering or a directly related discipline.
Chartered or Incorporated Engineer status and membership of a professional institution such as IET, InstMC or CIWEM, or actively pursuing membership.
Significant experience and track record in technical delivery of process plant systems on complex water industry engineering projects, preferably in water and wastewater.
Experience on design and construct projects using digital design.
Team leadership experience with collaborative behaviours.
Feasibility to detailed design stage delivery experience.
Proficiency with AutoCAD, AutoDesk Plant 3D and Common Data Environments.
