The role involves delivering technical services during bid, design, installation, and commissioning phases for data centres, clean rooms, pharmaceutical and other mission‑critical projects.
Responsibilities
Manage and deliver design work throughout design and build projects in collaboration with project teams and take full accountability for the mechanical services design for data centres and other mission critical projects.
Undertake design reviews and appraisals and provide technical advice and assistance to the project teams.
Guide and develop design team members, acting as a mentor to achieve goals and objectives.
Check calculations and prepare monthly design progress reports, identifying technical risks and opportunities.
Provide design/technical assessment support of tenders and deliver high quality solutions addressing contractual obligations and mitigating technical risk.
Lead design meetings as the senior engineer on projects.
Support the technical audit trail through design, procurement, installation, and commissioning stages.
Ensure successful delivery of projects with high‑quality design completed on time and within budget.
Deliver design in line with health and safety requirements.
Qualifications
Recognised qualification in mechanical/building services engineering (e.g., BEng or MEng).
Proven experience in mechanical services design with appropriate standards, guidance and client requirements.
Experience managing multiple projects simultaneously and prioritising effectively.
Experience developing team members and providing leadership to engineers and designers.
Effective decision maker able to consult with stakeholders and use judgement to escalated issues.
Experience leading the design of mechanical services for data centres and other mission critical projects.
Experience managing specialist design and engineering services—Sustainability & compliance (BREEAM, heat, fume, and noise emissions, Part L), mathematical modelling (CFD, FEA) and supporting designs.
Experience delivering design in line with RIBA plan of work, BSRIA BG6 schedule of services, and ISO 19650 up to RIBA Stage 5.
Experience with typical design and build contracts (JCT, NEC, MF1, etc.).
