Location: Ottawa, Canada (Hybrid – 3 days in office)
Reports to: VP of Infrastructure and Information Security
We are seeking an experienced Infrastructure Engineer to Support Syncore, our flagship SaaS platform serving promotional product distributors across North America. This is a product infrastructure role, where you will design, implement, and maintain the physical and network infrastructure that ensures Syncore is secure, available, and performant for our partners.
We operate a Windows-centric, on-premises environment, with a long-term strategy to migrate to cloud (Microsoft Azure).
The ideal candidate:
- Thrive in a hands-on technical role and enjoy solving complex infrastructure problems.
- Communicate effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Are comfortable participating in an on-call rotation for production support.
- Have experience working in Agile environments alongside DevOps and Engineering teams.
- Have a working knowledge of ITIL/ITSM processes, particularly Incident Management and Problem Management.
In this role you will:
- Design, document, and maintain secure network architecture including firewalls, switches, routing, VPNs, DNS and perimeter defenses.
- Install, configure and manage Windows servers, switches, routers and load balancers (e.g. CISCO, SonicWall, Citrix NetScaler) in collaboration with the security team.
- Lead hardware lifecycle: capacity planning, procurement, installation, maintenance and decommissioning.
- Ensure network redundancy, failover, and high availability aligned with business continuity requirements.
- Proactively monitor infrastructure and respond to connectivity or hardware issues as part of on-call rotation.
- Maintain accurate documentation for network topology, hardware inventory, and infrastructure processes.
- Collaborate with the Senior Platform Engineer on shared infrastructure such as storage (SAN), backup systems, and disaster recovery.
- Partner with DevOps and Engineering teams to support deployment pipelines and production operations.
- Stay current on infrastructure technologies and define network requirements that contribute to the organization's cloud migration strategy.
- Support disaster recovery planning and manage SOC-generated alerts in a timely manner.
- Join an out-of-hours/on-call schedule with response times defined by priority and severity ratings.
*This role does not manage corporate IT, employee devices, internal helpdesk functions, or end-user support. The focus is entirely on product infrastructure.
As Senior Infrastructure Engineer, you bring with you:
- Strong understanding of enterprise networking: TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, routing, switching, VLANs, and VPNs.
- Hands-on experience with firewalls (e.g., Cisco, SonicWall) and load balancers (e.g., Citrix NetScaler, F5).
- Proficiency with Windows Server environments, including installation, administration, and hardening.
- Experience managing physical hardware in datacenter operations.
- Familiarity with SAN storage, backup technologies, and disaster recovery planning.
- Scripting skills (PowerShell, Bash) for automation and operational tasks.
- Ability to diagnose and resolve complex network and infrastructure issues under pressure.
- Strong documentation habits and a commitment to knowledge sharing.
- Working knowledge of SQL is a bonus.
Key qualifications
- 7+ years of experience in IT infrastructure, with a focus on networking and hardware.
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, Information Technology, or related field, or equivalent experience.
- Networking certification (e.g., CCNA, CCNP) is preferred.
- Experience supporting SaaS or software development organizations is strongly preferred.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Azure and hybrid cloud strategies is a plus, given our long-term cloud strategy.
