Q4 Architects Inc. (Q4A) is a mid-size architectural practice specializing in residential design, community planning and institutional and community buildings. Established in 2004, the Principal, Directors, Associates, and many of the senior staff have been together for more than fifteen to twenty years. This core leadership group has developed into a knowledgeable, creative workforce of over 60 that thrives in an atmosphere of collaborative design.

Job Description

This role is currently fully remote. However, it is expected to transition to a hybrid or in-office arrangement at a future date, with a minimum of 30 days’ notice provided prior to this change. The position will require immediate in-person site reviews at construction sites in the greater Ottawa area, along with occasional internal and external meetings. The successful candidate must demonstrate a passion for residential design as well as a thorough understanding of the Ontario Building Code and construction process with a focus on wood frame construction. Strong, well developed on-site communication skills will be critical for success in this role. As a contract administrator, you will represent the Project Architect on site undertaking periodic field reviews to ensure the construction is in conformance with the plans and specifications produced by Q4A.


The successful candidate will collaborate closely with Project Managers, Project Architects, project team, and client to:

  • Develop, document, and coordinate the design of complex buildings.
  • Develop Construction Documents
  • Establish project Specifications
  • Organize, analyze, and coordinate various consultant, site, jurisdictional, and team information
  • Undertake frequent site reviews
  • Efficiently identify areas of construction that do not conform to the plans and specifications produce by Q4A.
  • Take site photos of construction progress and details
  • Prepare site observation reports using Q4A templates
  • Attend construction meetings on behalf of Q4A
  • Review product literature, analyze materials, and assess their appropriateness
  • Endorse and maintain firm documentation and filing standards while keeping project deliverables organized and on schedule


Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience with Residential and Multi- Residential projects with a strong emphasis on wood-framed low & mid-rise design for residential and mixed-use work
  • Professional Degree in Architecture or Architectural Technology (Intern or licensed Architect preferred)
  • Experience with Newforma is an asset
  • Experience working with both BIM (Revit, Navisworks, etc.) and CAD software environments
  • Proficient with the Ontario Building Code Parts 3 and 9 (Emphasis on part 9)
  • Experience in on-site reviews and Construction Administration
  • Dedication to a project, its design intent, and its successful construction
  • Rigorous attention to detail through design and construction
  • Exceptional Verbal and Written Communication skills.
  • Outstanding time management skills
  • Highly motivated with excellent interpersonal skills
  • Versatility, flexibility, and a willingness to work with constantly changing priorities
  • WHMIS and Working-at-Heights training will be required immediately.
  • A valid driver’s license and daily access to a reliable car are essential, as frequent travel to construction sites across the Ottawa area (including winter driving) is required. Mileage will be reimbursed at our standard rate.


Portfolio Must Demonstrate:

  • Expertise with wood- frame, multi-family residential projects (townhouses, stacked towns, back to backs, and similar projects.)
  • Advanced experience in Revit, AutoCAD, Excel
