Leadership skills and the willingness to teach and manage a surgical team is desired. *Role and Responsibilities*
* High level of comfort in a surgical setting. Including but not limited to: intubation of both cats and dogs, placing IV catheters, monitoring anesthesia, recovering patients
* Willingness to teach and lead a surgical team, maintain efficient flow on HQHVSN surgery days
* Ability to calculate drug doses and maintain detailed controlled drug logs
* Comfort with dentistry is desired, but not required
* Maintain constant observation of the health statuses of all of our shelter animals and notify DVM if concerns arise
* Advocate for shelter animals’ physical wellbeing at all times; educate team members as needed or opportunities arise
* Ability to successfully communicate with DVM and team members regarding animal health concerns and statuses
* Comfortable with proper and humane patient handling and restraint. Willingness to become fear-free certified within 30 days of hire, if not already
* Other duties as assigned
*PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT*
* Be able to comfortably lift 45 lbs.
* Be flexible enough to bend over and touch the floors
* Be able to kneel and stand repeatedly
* Utilize proper patient restraint
* Able to work standing or sitting for more than 8 hours a day
* Capable of using hands and arms to handle, install, position and move materials
* Capable of handling, positioning and restraining live animals
* Visual ability to see details at a close range and to make observations and assessments necessary in animal care. Be able to use diagnostic equipment i.e, microscope, thermometer, refractometer, etc.
* Auditory ability sufficient to monitor and assess health needs.
