We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Veterinary Technician to join our team. In this role, you will play a crucial part in providing high-quality care for animals and supporting veterinarians in various clinical procedures. The ideal candidate will possess a solid understanding of animal physiology, veterinary terminology, and hands-on experience in animal care. *1. Education & Certification*
* *An accredited AVMA Degree in Veterinary Technology*: 2-4 year program
* *LVT for 2+ years: *Experience in emergency and ICU care, critical care experience _preferable_
* *Continuing Education Credits*
*2. Technical Skills*
*Animal Handling & Restraint*
* Safely handling various species (dogs, cats, exotic pets). Gentle handling.
* Understanding animal behavior to prevent injuries.
* Maintaining proper safety protocols when handling animals and PPE of all infectious diseases in hospital.
*Medical Procedures & Laboratory Work*
* Drawing blood, placing IV catheters, performing injections.
* Proficient in monitoring anesthesia and assisting in surgeries.
* Administering medications (oral, SQ, IM, IV).
* Knowledgeable in radiology and CT (positioning, obtaining proper images).
* Setting up and monitoring for procedures.
* Able to perform drug calculations.
* Triage capability.
* Setting up and trouble-shooting IV pumps.
* Maintaining and calibration of oxygen cages.
*Emergency & Critical Care*
* Recognizing signs of distress or medical emergencies.
* Performing CPR and handling any role in a CPR code.
* Administering emergency medications.
* Knowledge of emergency equipment (including setting up and maintenance of Ambu bags, flow by oxygen, suction, anesthesia machines, laryngoscope, stylets, red rubber catheters, cuff inflators, endotracheal tubes and ability to recognize emergency drugs/calculations).
*Client Education & Communication*
* Explaining discharge instructions, treatment plans, post-op care, and preventive care.
* Addressing concerns with empathy and professionalism.

* *Communication Skills* – Ability to explain medical procedures to clients and work with veterinarians and staff effectively.
* *Compassion & Empathy* – Handling emotional situations with clients (e.g., euthanasia discussions).
* *Problem-Solving* – Quickly adapting to emergencies or unpredictable animal behavior.
* *Time Management* – Managing multiple patients and tasks efficiently.
* *Teamwork* – Working collaboratively with veterinarians, assistants, and receptionists.

*4. Physical Requirements*
* *Stamina & Strength* – Ability to lift and restrain animals (sometimes over 50 lbs).
*5. Legal & Ethical Knowledge*
* *Understanding Veterinary Laws & Ethics* – Knowledge of NY state regulations regarding veterinary practice.
* *HIPAA & Client Confidentiality* – Maintaining privacy for patient records.
* *Animal Welfare & Safety Regulations* – Ensuring humane treatment of animals in all aspects of care.
*6. Specialized Skills (Optional)*
* *Exotic Animal Care* – Knowledge of birds, reptiles, and small mammals.
* *Rehabilitation & Physical Therapy* – Assisting in post-surgical recovery.
* *Behavioral Training* – Helping with anxiety, aggression, and fear-based issues.
* *Pharmacy & Prescription Management* – Understanding veterinary pharmaceuticals.
*7. Additional Certifications (Optional)*
* *Fear Free Certification* – Helps in stress-free animal handling.
* *Emergency & Critical Care (VTS-ECC)* – For specialized emergency work.
* *Anesthesia & Analgesia (VTS-Anesthesia)* – Advanced knowledge in anesthesia.
