About the Role

The Quality Management System (QMS) Lead is the single point of accountability for the organization's integrated professional and operational quality systems. This part-time leadership position ensures full compliance with professional engineering standards and drives continuous improvement across operational processes.

You will serve as a systems auditor and process owner, focusing on the integrity of internal engineering and operational workflows, documentation, and professional obligations. The role reports to senior technical leadership and maintains direct accountability for compliance with professional practice regulations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Professional Practice Management Plan (PPMP) Stewardship: Maintain and continuously improve all nine required elements of the PPMP, ensuring that the manual remains audit-ready and aligned with professional regulatory requirements.
  • Operational Process Leadership: Own and optimize operational processes to ensure consistency, performance, and technical excellence.
  • Internal Quality Auditing: Conduct scheduled internal audits to verify that quality assurance procedures (e.g., Inter-Disciplinary Checks, independent reviews, drawing stamps) are being properly executed.
  • Corrective Action Management: Lead the Incident Reporting (IR) and Corrective Action Request (CAR) processes, including root-cause investigation, tracking, and reporting of non-conformances.
  • Vendor QA Framework: Define and maintain quality assurance requirements for third-party vendors and fabricators, ensuring all quality documentation (ITPs, Material Test Reports, etc.) meets professional oversight obligations.
  • Performance Reporting: Develop and deliver quarterly "State of the QMS" reports summarizing key quality metrics such as audit findings, open non-conformances, and cost-of-poor-quality indicators.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering.
  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation, registered and in good standing with APEGA.
  • 10+ years of experience as a Professional Engineer, ideally within a manufacturing, EPC, or owner/operator environment.
  • 2+ years of experience in a business-systems or compliance-focused role.
  • Expert-level knowledge of APEGA's Permit to Practice requirements and the nine PPMP elements.
  • Familiarity with ISO 9001, pressure-equipment regulations, and international standards is an asset.
  • Experience with continuous-improvement methodologies (Lean Six Sigma, Kaizen, or Agile) preferred.
  • Background in the design or fabrication of pressure equipment or heavy industrial machinery is a strong asset.

Skills and Attributes

  • Meticulous and Process-Driven: Deep respect for documentation, compliance, and procedural integrity.
  • Assertive yet Diplomatic: Able to hold senior engineers and project managers accountable while maintaining positive collaboration.
  • Clear Communicator: Skilled in writing concise procedures and reports for technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Analytical Problem-Solver: Experienced in identifying root causes and developing effective corrective actions.
  • Strong Stakeholder Management: Able to communicate compliance status and risks effectively to leadership teams.

Working Conditions

  • Part-time position based in Calgary, with a hybrid arrangement requiring in-office work Tuesday through Thursday.
  • Flexible hours, determined in consultation with the successful candidate.
  • Competitive compensation and benefits, including health coverage, wellness support, paid vacation, and annual performance incentives.

We are an equal opportunity employer, committed to an inclusive and safe work environment for people of all backgrounds. We thank all applicants for their interest; only those selected for an interview will be contacted.
