The role This position sits within the Data Science team in TD&D (Technology, Digital & Data), supporting SSEN Distribution across core use cases including facilitating the transition to net zero, delivering the ED2 (Electricity Distribution 2) business plan, driving efficiency savings through automation/machine learning and building market‑leading machine learning technology solutions to deliver best‑in‑class service to our customers.
You will
Support the creation & adoption of data & AI products across the wider SSEN business, ranging from traditional machine learning, generative AI, advanced analysis & statistics.
Work closely with business stakeholders to create high‑impact, value‑returning products that influence key business metrics.
Create sustainable cost‑optimised solutions (FinOps) and collaborate with data quality/governance teams to maintain compliance with data security, GDPR and ethical AI best practice.
Leverage advances in AI technology to develop data science innovation products, prototyping solutions in emerging fields such as Agentic AI.
Apply best coding practices, use of repositories, DevOps sprints & Agile boards to align with TD&D ways of working.
You have
Extensive experience with Azure, Python, Databricks, SQL, geospatial tools, Azure DevOps, data factory & pipeline creation.
Machine learning experience on the Azure platform, AutoML or Python.
Excellent communication & stakeholder management skills, with the ability to drive value through end‑to‑end ownership of business use cases.
Early experience with emerging tech such as NLP & generative AI, including awareness of use cases, value and ethical concerns.
Front‑end development (GUI) experience, leveraging Azure Databricks (Databricks Apps) to create user‑friendly tools off key data science & machine learning products.
