The Opportunity:

Trixstar and the Great Outdoors Comedy Festival (GOCF) are seeking a Controller - Finance Leader to take ownership of the finance function and work closely with the owner and operating teams. This is a hands-on role for someone who enjoys being close to the business, rolling up their sleeves, and using financial insight to support growth, execution, and improved performance.

What You'll Do:

As Controller – Finance Leader, you will be responsible for ensuring the finance function supports the business as it continues to scale and prepares for the next phase of growth. The emphasis is on forward-looking insight, disciplined cash management, and practical decision support — while maintaining a professional, reliable accounting foundation that can grow with the business.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Financial leadership: Serving as the senior finance resource relied on by the owner and operating teams, actively engaged in bringing structure, perspective, and financial insight to day-to-day and strategic decisions.
  • Cash management and financial discipline: Owning visibility into cash position, liquidity, and timing across the full sales and event cycle, and ensuring capital is deployed thoughtfully in support of growth.
  • Planning, forecasting, and revenue insight: Designing and maintaining a clear planning, forecasting, and reporting process that provides timely insight into expected performance at the daily, event/weekend, and season level. This includes tracking sales pace, revenue drivers, and cost behaviour, and highlighting implications in real-time as conditions change.
  • Performance insight and unit economics: Ensuring the business has a clear, practical understanding of what drives profitability at the event, weekend, and season level, and how those drivers are trending.
  • Monitoring and decision support: Taking ownership of the first view of performance, identifying key variances and trends, and supporting informed decision-making without becoming a bottleneck or gatekeeper.
  • Systems, reporting, and process improvement: Building and improving the financial systems, reporting, and processes needed to operate effectively at the next stage of scale.
  • Core accounting and team leadership: Ensuring professional delivery of core accounting, controls, and close, and managing and mentoring a small finance team.
  • Cross-border and multi-entity accounting (Canada/U.S.): Supporting reporting and controls across both entities, including intercompany transactions, U.S. dollar (USD) activity, foreign exchange considerations, and coordination with external advisors as needed.

What You Bring :

You are a strong accounting and finance professional with solid, hands-on controller experience who is ready to take on broader scope and influence.

  • Approximately 5+ years of previous finance experience in a similar role is an asset.
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Finance, Accounting, Business, or a related field is required.
  • CPA designation is preferred.
  • Comfort partnering with an owner and leadership team, can step in quickly, and bring the judgment and maturity needed to contribute effectively without a long ramp-up.
  • You take a practical, forward-looking approach to the role. You focus on strengthening what's needed to support the next stage of growth, are comfortable rolling up your sleeves, and put structure in place where it adds value — using financial insight in ways that are genuinely useful to the business.
  • You enjoy being part of a strong, high-performing team building a scaled, event-based business that delivers high-quality live experiences to large audiences and has meaningful runway for growth.
  • Experience in event-based or project-based businesses is helpful, but not required.
  • The role calls for financial discipline — the ability to plan well, execute within tight timelines, and influence budget decisions thoughtfully, where preparation and follow-through materially influence outcomes.
  • Sound judgment, the ability to understand how the business operates, and the ability to engage constructively with the team — raising issues when appropriate, listening carefully, and working through decisions collaboratively — are important.

Why Join Trixstar?

This is an opportunity to step into a senior, hands-on finance leadership role with real influence in a growing, founder-led business. You'll work closely with the owner, help strengthen how decisions are made, and play a meaningful role in guiding the business toward consistent cash-flow positivity and profitability — without losing what already makes it successful.
