We are looking for great people to join our diverse teams of construction professionals for practicums / summer internships or coop programs.

Role:  Project Coordinator – Intern / Coop / Practicum

Reports To – Project Manager / Senior Project Coordinator

Length of Term – Flexible:  From March to September (or Coop Term up to 6 months)

Successful Candidates May Have an Opportunity for Full-Time Hire after graduating

ROLE SUMMARY

The Project Coordinator Practicum, Internship and Coop positions have been created to assist new construction professionals to build key skills and competencies in areas such as cost control, document control, scheduling, estimating, pre-construction and subtrade coordination. 

MAJOR AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY

Project Coordination

  • Become a great support to the project team, learning to coordinate project budget, scope, and schedule
  • Learn skills and venues to collaborate with the entire project team to ensure clear direction and timelines
  • Learn how to manage changes (scope, drawings, trades, staff, material, etc.) 
  • Attend and start to organize site meetings, assisting with preparation and minute distribution
  • Become familiar and understand SBW's operating policies and practices and apply them appropriately
  • Shadow Senior Coordinator(s), PM and Superintendent when reviewing project schedule
  • Become an expert with SBW and OH&S standards for assigned projects

Document and Quality Control

  • Become a star at managing drawings, drawing records and revisions and important documentation using SBW platforms and process
  • Assist in organizing Requests for Information (RFI's), shop drawings, field instructions, site instructions, change orders, QA/QC documentation 
  • Understand the records management processes for all testing and inspections
  • Become familiar with various safety documentation and practices
  • Organize and coordinate maintenance manuals at project close out, if necessary

Cost and Project Control

  • Shadow and learn the process in managing the cost reporting system for all project components in coordination with the Project Manager and Senior Coordinator(s)
  • Asist and become efficient in monitoring daily, weekly, and monthly labour, equipment, material and subtrade costs
  • Assist with collection of Subtrade/Supplier invoices and understand the review process shadowing the PM and Senior Coordinator
  • Become efficient at monitoring project progress, costs and budgets throughout the project life using Procore
  • Assist in compiling change order documentation
  • Understand the preparation of material procurement and purchase orders
  • Collect time & material sheets when applicable

Subtrade Coordination

  • Assist and review subcontracts in conjunction with the Project Manager and Senior Coordinator(s)
  • Assist in coordinating of LEED initiatives if necessary

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Fluent communication (verbal and writing) skills
  • Proficient problem solving and organization skills
  • Currently enrolled in an Canadian Accredited Engineering, Construction, or Architectural Technology Program

Computer Skills

  • Proficient in Microsoft: Outlook, Word, Excel, Powerpoint
  • Canada
