Microsoft 365 Architect

Position Summary

We are seeking a Microsoft 365 Architect to own the architecture, governance, and delivery of modern workplace solutions across the Microsoft 365 ecosystem. This role is suited for a senior professional with strong architectural depth who can convert business and regulatory requirements into secure, scalable, and user-focused platform designs.

As a trusted advisor, you will lead enterprise-scale initiatives spanning Exchange Online, Teams, SharePoint Online, OneDrive, Viva, Power Platform, Entra ID, Intune, Purview, Defender, and Microsoft 365 Copilot. You will work closely with executive stakeholders, IT leadership, and delivery teams to define strategy, guide implementation, and ensure long-term platform adoption and maturity.

Key Responsibilities

Serve as the technical authority for Microsoft 365 architecture, design, and delivery across enterprise environments.

Design secure, scalable, and compliant solutions across Exchange Online, SharePoint Online, OneDrive, Teams, Viva, Power Platform, and Microsoft 365 Copilot.

Provide architectural guidance on identity and access management using Microsoft Entra ID, Conditional Access, MFA, and Privileged Identity Management (PIM).

Define and implement security and compliance strategies using Microsoft Purview, including Data Loss Prevention, Information Protection, retention, insider risk, and eDiscovery.

Architect and govern Microsoft Teams deployments, covering lifecycle management, governance models, secure external collaboration, and voice/telephony integration.

Lead modernization and migration initiatives from on-premises or legacy platforms into Microsoft 365, ensuring effective coexistence and minimal business disruption.

Design and implement Microsoft Intune and Endpoint Manager solutions for device compliance, application protection, and secure BYOD scenarios integrated with Conditional Access.

Deploy and integrate Microsoft Defender capabilities (Office 365, Endpoint, Identity, Cloud Apps) to strengthen tenant security in alignment with Zero Trust principles.

Drive automation using PowerShell, Microsoft Graph, and Power Automate to standardize configurations, enforce governance, and improve operational efficiency.

Define licensing and cost-optimization strategies that balance productivity, security, and enterprise cost management.

Act as a trusted advisor to executive stakeholders, translating business, compliance, and risk requirements into actionable Microsoft 365 solutions.

Mentor technical teams, facilitate workshops, and lead knowledge-transfer initiatives to support sustainable adoption and operational maturity.

Contribute to practice development through reusable architectures, accelerators, governance frameworks, and adoption playbooks for Microsoft 365 and Copilot.

Communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical audiences, leading solution discussions and influencing decision-making at the executive level.

Required Experience

8–10+ years of overall IT experience, with a strong focus on Microsoft 365 architecture and enterprise delivery.

Deep expertise across Exchange Online, SharePoint Online, OneDrive, Teams, Viva, and Power Platform.

Proven experience designing identity and security architectures using Microsoft Entra ID, Conditional Access, MFA, PIM, and Zero Trust principles.

Strong background implementing Microsoft Purview (DLP, sensitivity labels, insider risk, eDiscovery) and the Microsoft Defender security stack.

Demonstrated success leading large-scale Microsoft 365 migrations, tenant consolidations, and modernization initiatives.

Hands-on experience with automation and governance using PowerShell, Microsoft Graph APIs, PnP, and policy-driven controls.

Excellent consulting, communication, and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence both executives and technical teams.

Preferred Qualifications

Microsoft certifications such as MS-102, MS-700, MS-721, SC-300, and SC-400.

Experience delivering Microsoft 365 security and compliance solutions in regulated industries (finance, healthcare, government).

Familiarity with Teams voice, telephony integration, and advanced collaboration architectures.

Background working in an MSP or professional services consulting environment.
