About
School-College-Work Initiative (SCWI):
The dual credit
program at Durham College allows students to participate in post-secondary
courses, earning dual credits that count towards their high school diploma, as
well as earning a college course credit that may count towards a future
post-secondary diploma, degree or apprenticeship.
Dual credits engage students through exposure to
college courses and culture while supporting their successful transition to
post-secondary education. Each year, over 2,000 area high school students take
a dual credit program with Durham College. SCWI is proud to be partnered with
Durham Catholic District School Board, Durham District School Board, Kawartha
Pine Ridge District School Board, and Peterborough Victoria Northumberland
Clarington Catholic District School Board

Position Information:

The Faculty of
Liberal Studies' School College Work Initiative at Durham College is seeking an
experienced and motivated professional who shares our commitment to increase
secondary student engagement, confidence and success in a college course to
teach Sheet Metal Fabrication (HVMF
Part-time faculty teach up to 6 hours per
week with varied schedules Monday through Friday during regular high school
hours. The majority of courses are delivered as two 75-minute classes in
alignment with the high school timetable and periods.
Professors in this program may teach a variety of delivery models, which could
involve teaching at a high school located in Durham Region, or in some cases,

IMPORTANT NOTE
FOR PART-TIME FACULTY APPLICANTS: 
Part-time
recruitment is ongoing and is dependent on when courses are being taught and
the need for faculty to teach.   

The responsibilities of Durham College Part-time Professors include, but are not limited to: 

  • Creating a positive learning environment that accommodates students' diverse cultural and educational backgrounds, experiences, and individual learning styles;
  • Utilizing principles of pedagogy and universal learning design to actively engage students in the learning process;
  • Effectively using educational technologies to support learning, manage and post grades, and deliver hybrid and on-line courses;
  • Developing curriculum that uses appropriate strategies and tools to assess student learning;
  • Ensuring that course and program curriculum is current and relevant;
  • Working independently and demonstrating initiative; and
  • Working effectively with students, the program team, and a variety of internal and external stakeholders.
  • Qualifications:

  • A Certificate of Qualification 313A or 313D
    and Gas Technician (G1) license.
  • Working knowledge of Energy Act, HVAC related
    Code, CSA standards and the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
  • A minimum of five years of recent (within the
    past three years) and relevant work experience.
  • Teaching experience at the post-secondary
    level with a demonstrated understanding and application of UDL and current
    assessment methodologies.
  • Experience participating in industry-led or
    community-based applied
    research is an asset.
  • Demonstrated commitment to putting the student
    experience first.
  • Demonstrated use of current technologies to
    support student learning and the management of grades.
  • Proven track record of life-long learning.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with
    a variety of internal and external stakeholders including students,
    faculty, support staff, administrators and community stakeholders.
  • Understanding of the Ontario college system.
  • Must be able to provide a clean Vulnerable
    Sector Check (VSC) upon hire
  • Preference
    will be given to candidates with relevant educational credentials and a proven
    track record of relevant work/teaching experience.  Please note that hired candidates will be
