Job Description

This position reports to the Director of Clinical Services. This position is responsible for the provision and supervision of comprehensive quality therapy services (recreational, art or music) for psychiatric inpatients. The Recreation Therapist Coordinator oversees the development and delivery of therapeutic recreation services across six inpatient behavioral health units. This role includes clinical supervision, program development, and administrative leadership to ensure high-quality, patient-centered care. This entails designing and coordinating therapeutic recreation programs tailored to diverse patient populations, collaborating with interdisciplinary teams to integrate recreation therapy into treatment plans, supervising and mentoring experiential therapists and ensuring program appropriateness as well as conducting performance reviews and facilitate professional development, ensuring adherence to hospital policies and regulatory standards and providing training and promoting a recreational therapy program appropriate for the behavioral health population.

Education: Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Art, Music or Recreation Therapy or related field.

Experience: Experience in therapeutic programs in the field of behavioral or mental health.

Licenses/Certificates: Certification in Basic Life Support required Certification by the Board of Music Therapy (MT-BC); or Art therapist registration (ATR) by the American Art Therapy Association; or Credentialed as a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS) by the National Council for Therapeutic Recreation Certification (NCTRC). Certification in de-escalation training within the orientation period for employment.

Additional Job Description

Minimum Requirements: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution, and 3 years of experience in recreation, music, art therapy, or a related field; or a Master's degree in a related field and 1 year of experience. Credentialed as a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS) by the National Council for Therapeutic Recreation Certification (NCTRC). Music Therapy position requires a bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution. Credentialed as a Music Therapist by the Certification Board for Music Therapists (CBMT). Art Therapy position requires a master’s degree from an accredited institution. Credentialed as an Art Therapist by the Art Therapy Credentials Board (ATBC) and registration by ATR. Strong interpersonal skills, creative, flexible, and resourceful. Ability to work collaboratively with care team members at all levels of the organization.

Certifications/Licensure: Certification by the Board of Music Therapy (MT-BC); or Art therapist registration (ATR) by the American Art Therapy Association; or  Credentialed as a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS) by the National Council for Therapeutic Recreation Certification (NCTRC). Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS), either a certification from an American Heart Association (AHA) BLS for Healthcare Providers (or AHA recognized equivalent) or an American Red Cross CPR/AED for Professional Rescuer and Healthcare Provider If external hire: within the first 30 days of employment. De-escalation training within the first 6 months of employment.
