Overview:
A CWBW provides for the safety and well-being of children in accordance with KGCFS policies and procedures and Ministry Standards. As the successful applicant, the CWBW will work collaboratively with all KGCFS resources, biological and foster parents, extended family, and First Nation communities to ensure that our children are protected and stay connected with their culture, language, and community while strengthening family and community relationships.
Education & Experience:
  • Must possess an accredited college diploma in a related field of study.
  • Preference will be given to those who possess a Bachelor of Social Work Honors Degree or a degree in a related field of study.
  • At least two (2) years of work experience in the delivery of direct, frontline, social service programming within an Anishinabe Child and Family Well-Being Services is preferred or proven experience in working with Anishinabek people.
  • An individual of Anishinaabe ancestry is preferred with genuine understanding and lived experiences of Anishinaabe worldviews, traditions, customs and practices.

Knowledge Skills & Abilities:
  • Knowledge of the Child and Family & Youth Services Act. (CYFSA).
  • The ability to speak the Anishinaabe language is a definite asset and /or willingness for continual learning.  Preference will be given to applicants who can speak or write Ojibway, provided they have skills, ability, and qualifications to do the job.
  • Ability to interpret and apply a wide range of Social Work practices and principles, and Native based methods designed to help families achieve a healthier lifestyle.
  • Excellent communication skills. Written skills for the completion of documents, reports, and case notes. Oral skills for communication on a one-to-one basis with clients.
  • Honour all children and youth who may be in transition equally and strive to provide the required supports for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, and 2-spirited individuals to achieve healthy self-esteem and life enrichment.

Work Environment:
  • The traditional practices of the Anishinabek, from time to time, there can be exposure to wood smoke, and the burning of sacred medicines, including tobacco, sweetgrass, sage, or cedar, may occur within the work setting.

About Kina Gbezhgomi Child and Family Services:

On April 1, 2012 Kina Gbezhgomi Child And Family Services transferred the direct service delivery and management of the prevention services inclusive of family and community support services to the First Nations. Each of the First Nations and Kina Gbezhgomi Child and Family Services has a Contribution Agreement outlining the roles and responsibilities of the agency and First Nation in this collaborative partnership inclusive of agency support and training, funding arrangements, service and financial reporting. Kina Gbezhgomi Child And Family Services completed this process as a transition phase to a fully integrated child welfare model in preparation for designation as a child welfare agency, and also to reflect the membership requests in relation to First Nation community based delivery of prevention services.
