SMS Equipment is seeking a Payroll Coordinator for a temporary, full-time parental leave coverage term of approximately 12 months.
The Payroll Coordinator plays an essential role in delivering accurate, compliant, and timely payroll services across our organization. We are looking for a detail-oriented professional who brings strong technical expertise, sound judgement, and a commitment to quality to support full-cycle payroll processing, reconciliation, and year-end activities. Your accuracy, analytical skills, and collaborative approach will help ensure our employees are paid correctly and our payroll operations run smoothly.

Work Location: Corporate Office in Acheson, AB (Greater Edmonton Area)
Salary: $62,000 - $70,000 annually.
Work Arrangement: Hybrid – providing the flexibility to work remotely up to 2 days per week

What You'll Do

  • Process and verify full-cycle payroll for all employees, ensuring accuracy and compliance with company policies, Collective Bargaining Agreements and legislative requirements.
  • Reconcile payroll reports and validate data to maintain accurate records.
  • Cross-train and conduct peer reviews of payroll processing to support accuracy and continuous improvement.
  • Support and participate in year-end payroll activities, including reconciliations and preparation of required reports and filings.

What You Bring

The incumbent will have a minimum of 3 years of full-cycle payroll experience and a Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP) designation. Additional qualifications include:

  • Experience with payroll in a unionized environment, including application of collective agreements and premiums.
  • Knowledge of UKG (formerly UltiPro) payroll and benefits systems considered an asset.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills (pivot tables, VLOOKUPs, complex calculations, and efficient formatting).
  • Excellent analytical skills, accuracy, and attention to detail.
  • Proven ability to identify issues, troubleshoot, and develop effective solutions.
  • Bilingualism in English and French considered an asset, but not required.

This position is classified as an Individual Contributor role in SMS Equipment's competency framework, requiring demonstration of core competencies (customer focus, collaboration, and technical/functional expertise).
