StartCan Business Consulting supports entrepreneurs, immigrant founders, and small business owners in British Columbia and across Canada by developing high-quality business plans, pitch decks, financial projections, and funding-ready documents. We work with clients pursuing BC PNP Entrepreneur Immigration, CSBFP financing, Canadian bank loans (RBC, TD, CIBC, Scotiabank, and others), incubator and accelerator programs, angel investment, private financing, and strategic funding opportunities. Our work supports start-ups, expansions, and new business launches across British Columbia, Alberta, Ontario, and beyond.

We are growing and are looking for skilled Business Writers to join our team.

Position Overview

The Business Writer will research, write, and develop business plans and strategic documents for a wide range of industries. This role requires strong analytical skills, excellent writing, and the ability to translate research into clear, investor- or government-ready content.

You must be comfortable working independently, meeting deadlines, and handling confidential business information.

Types of Business Plans You Will Write

You will work on a wide variety of plans, including but not limited to:

Immigration & Government Programs

  • BC PNP – Entrepreneur Immigration (Base & Regional)
  • BC PNP – Strategic Projects
  • Saskatchewan & Ontario Entrepreneur Programs (as needed)
  • In-Demand Sector business plans for immigration pathways

Financing & Funding

  • CSBFP (Canada Small Business Financing Program) Loan Business Plans
  • BDC Loan Business Plans
  • RBC, TD, Scotiabank lending-ready business plans
  • Investor-ready business plans for private lenders
  • Grant-supported project plans (PacifiCan, IRAP, Women Entrepreneurs programs, etc.)

General Business Plans

  • Start-up business plans (restaurants, retail, e-commerce, trades, tech, consulting)
  • Expansion plans for existing businesses
  • Franchise business plans
  • Healthcare business plans (medical clinics, dental, physio, aesthetics)
  • Daycare business plans (very common for StartCan clients)

Other Deliverables

  • Pitch decks (10–15 slides)
  • Market research summaries
  • Competitive analysis reports
  • SEO-optimized articles for StartCan's website

Key Responsibilities

  • Research industry trends, market data, and Canadian business requirements
  • Draft full business plans (20–30+ pages) with strong structure and clarity
  • Create executive summaries, operational plans, marketing strategies, and financial assumptions
  • Collaborate with StartCan team members for ongoing revisions and client alignment
  • Maintain confidentiality and follow internal writing standards
  • Deliver polished, client-ready documents on time
  • Edit and revise based on client or internal feedback

Required QualificationsEducation

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Commerce, Economics, Finance, Marketing, Entrepreneurship, Communications, Technical Writing, or a related field.

  • Minimum 2 years of professional experience in business plan writing, grant writing, pitch decks. feasibility studies, market research or financial analysis, consulting, immigration consulting, or lending industry experience

Required Skills

  • Strong business writing and storytelling ability
  • Excellent grammar, clarity, and structure
  • Ability to research and synthesize information quickly
  • Excellent skills developing financial projections, cash flow statement, break-even analysis, revenue model and pricing assumptions
  • Familiarity with Canadian business environment
  • Proficiency with Google Docs, Sheets, and online collaboration
  • Ability to manage multiple deadlines
  • High attention to detail and confidentiality

Nice-to-Have Assets

  • Knowledge of BC PNP or other provincial entrepreneur programs
  • Experience preparing CSBFP or BDC-ready business plans
  • SEO writing or content creation skills
  • Graphic design or pitch-deck formatting skills

Compensation

  • Competitive hourly rate depending on experience
