Classification: Front Line ($17.85 to $20.90 per hour)

Reporting to: Behavioural Support Team Leader

Position Summary:

Under the direction of the Behavioural Support Team Leader, the Carpenter Trainee (Construction BC Indigenous Skills Program) participate in our outdoor building projects at Lil'wat Place Forest School site. This position is an experiential (pre-apprenticeship) training opportunity, and the employee will learn carpentry basics, and site-specific safety skills. Ideally participants will become comfortable with construction sites and enhance their self confidence. Employee will learn to work with a wide variety of tools, and equipment, while being involved in managing project expectations.

Key Deliverables and Expectations:

  • Punctual and regular attendance is essential.
  • Assist and participate in designated construction projects with lead builder.
  • Willing to work independently, and within a team to problem solve both project and teamwork challenges.

Experience and Attributes:

  • Completion of grade 12 is preferred, but not essential.
  • A desire to continue to follow into a formal trades' apprenticeship and/or path to a Red Seal certification.
  • Ability to work independently, and as an integral member of a small work crew.
  • Ability to learn how to meet deadlines prioritizes assignments, manage multiple tasks simultaneously and maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to lift and carry at least 50lbs and work at a medium height (10 feet or more).
  • Motivated self-starter and with strong interpersonal skills.
  • Safety conscious individual who follows instructions and looks after equipment and tools.
  • Must be able to provide a clear criminal record check, including the vulnerable sector.
