The Opportunity:
The City of Red Deer is currently recruiting to fill a permanent full-time position for a Lead Operator – Distribution. Reporting to the Water Superintendent, the Lead Operator - Distribution (referred to as the Distribution Lead) schedules and directs operational work functions to ensure compliance to established policies and procedures, OH&S, and the AENV Approval to Operate. The Lead Operator provides direction, guidance, support and leadership to Distribution Operators and Waterworks Labourers in the operation of the Water Distribution System.
As our preferred candidate, you will have:
- Grade 12 diploma or equivalent.
- Unrestricted Level 4 Alberta Provincial Operator's Certification in Water Distribution
- Education or training in a one-year water/wastewater related technical program is preferred.
- Must successfully pass all safety certificate courses currently required and others to be defined by the Province or by the City
- To maintain certification, they are required to achieve 3.6 CEU each 3 years.
- A Minimum of Six (6) years' experience in planning and operating processes of municipal infrastructure in a Level III or IV certified Water Distribution System
- Two (2 ) years of supervisory experience and demonstrated knowledge of appropriate supervision of respectful and inclusive workplace
- Valid Alberta Class 5 Driver's License with an acceptable driving record.
- Lead Operators require well developed verbal and written communications skills, and strong interpersonal skills Strong Leadership skills including but not limited to motivating, empowering and building teams.
- Demonstrated ability to work unsupervised and co-operate with colleagues as a team, to understand and follow instructions and to provide guidance and instructions to junior operators or Waterworks labourers
- Must be physically fit in order to climb ladders, work at heights, open and close valves, lift, shovel, bend and twist in awkward positions
- Strong computer aptitude including demonstrated proficiency with databases, spreadsheets and word-processing software
- Demonstrated mechanical aptitude and the ability to accurately use a wide range of monitoring, controls and laboratory testing equipment
- Demonstrated safety skills in the use of specialized protective equipment for chemical handling or containment and cleanup, including respirators, and air quality monitors. Some work may require use of harnesses and hoisting equipment. Ability to exercise care when working near traffic, when working with power tools etc.

Remuneration:
$45.36 to $51.54 per hour (Development Ladder)
Hours of Work:
80 hours biweekly; Monday to Friday; after hours on-call is a requirement; weeknight and weekend overtime for emergency response and on-call rotation.
