We're looking for a Team Lead, Payment Risk Operations to join our Payments team. You will play an integral role in Fraud and loss prevention, merchant credit risk assessment and team innovation. This role is responsible for managing a team of risk analysts to ensure effective monitoring, investigation, and mitigation of payment-related risks, which includes oversight of fraud detection, underwriting new accounts, incident management and ensuring compliance with regulatory and internal policy requirements.

What you'll be doing:

Reporting to the Senior Manager of Risk Operations you will be responsible for daily team operations, people development and strategic initiatives including but not limited to:

  • Participates in making and executing key people management decisions (e.g. hiring, talent development tasks, disciplinary actions, terminations, etc.)
  • Onboarding and training new team members including developing and owning onboarding plans and training content
  • Lead and supervise a team of risk analysts, providing coaching, feedback, and development support.
  • Oversee daily risk monitoring and investigation activities across all products and payment channels.
  • Act as an escalation point for complex cases, providing timely guidance and decision-making.
  • Act as incident manager for financial services incidents related to payments risk and fraud
  • Manage the underwriting of new accounts, ensuring appropriate risk assessments, due diligence, and documentation are completed.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory, card network, and internal policy requirements across all underwriting and operational activities.
  • Coordinates vacations, and time off approvals for the team, as well as task distribution, in order to ensure appropriate service coverage
  • Leads knowledge-sharing initiatives, such as: post-mortem reviews, knowledge base updates, training, coaching and leading junior team members, etc.
  • Collaborate with fraud, disputes, onboarding, and compliance teams to resolve cross-functional risk issues.
  • Support the implementation of new risk tools, systems, and processes.
  • Identify patterns and emerging threats in risk activity and escalate insights to management.
  • Contribute to continuous process improvements to strengthen controls and enhance efficiency.
  • Provide reporting and updates on team performance, risk metrics, and operational challenges.

What you need to bring:

We're a team of 17 people located globally. The Team Lead will act as the bridge between analysts and senior management, driving team performance, providing guidance on complex cases, and fostering a culture of accountability, compliance, customer focus, and continuous improvement.

We're looking for a candidate who has experience with the following:

  • 5–7 years of experience in payments risk, fraud prevention, or financial operations at a merchant service provider such as a Payments Facilitator or Payments Acquirer
  • At least 2 years in a supervisory, team lead, or mentoring role.
  • Strong knowledge of payment methods and associated risk/fraud vectors.
  • Hands-on experience with underwriting, onboarding, and due diligence processes for payments or financial accounts.
  • Familiarity with compliance and regulatory requirements relevant to payments (e.g., AML, KYC, card scheme rules, NACHA, PSD2).
  • Experience with fraud monitoring platforms, transaction screening, or case management tools.
  • Proven ability to deliver results in fast-paced, high-volume operational environments.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
  • Effective communicator with strong written and verbal skills in English. As a global company with employees and clients outside of Quebec, fluency in English as a working language is required for this position.
