Here’s what you’ll be doing:
We're looking for a Principal DevOps Engineer to join our platform engineering team of 8 engineers, supporting core elements of our Internal Developer Platform (IDP). Reporting to the DevOps Engineering Lead, this role will be central in delivering change and strategy in an agile and transparent way to the IDP. The role requires a team player who is highly technical, organised and passionate about excellence. You will provide clarity on the PEST roadmap and priority of work which will align to the business needs and IDP goals. You will be hands‑on in delivering new features for our IDP and internal PaaS.
Key Responsibilities
Provide expert technical mentorship to grow the team's skills and careers.
Set and execute the technical vision, partnering with our DevOps Engineering Lead to design, architect and lead the implementation of our infrastructure roadmap.
Identify system-wide bottlenecks, technical debt and inefficiencies; propose solutions that significantly improve developer productivity, security, reliability and cost.
Champion a modern DevOps culture, driving automation, self‑service tooling and a "you build it, you run it" mindset.
Remain hands‑on and excel at identifying and solving the most ambiguous, high‑impact technical problems.
Act as a key architect for our IDP, treating infrastructure as a product.
Roadmap Highlights
Adding GPU‑backed instance support to our ECS clusters for a 10× improvement in inference time for AI workloads.
Implementing ‘rainbow deployments’ to allow real‑time A/B testing of new features.
Rolling out new AMI and container images from Amazon Linux 2 to Ubuntu with zero downtime, simultaneously shifting from x86 to ARM architecture.
Auto‑injecting secrets into instance and container runtimes to reduce cognitive load and improve security.
Building a tool to auto‑generate IaC as part of the CI/CD pipeline using a DSL.
