*Position Summary:*
*Part-time surgical technician for surgical center operating Tuesday - Friday. No nights, weekends, major holidays or call. *
The Surgical Tech provides scrub assistant skills within the O.R. Suite.
The ST is also responsible for sterile processing duties including: decontamination, cleaning, assembling, packaging, sterilization, storage and distribution of surgical instrumentation and equipment.
He/She is familiar with and is supportive of the facility’s policies and procedures.
*Accountable to: *O.R. Nurse Manager
*Qualifications:*
1. Must have completed high school or equivalent and acceptable O.R. training program with appropriate certification.
2. Must have current CPR certification.
3. Must be able to communicate and understand the English language, both written and verbal.
4. Must possess the physical ability and perceptive acuity (e.g., visual, hearing) to satisfactorily perform all direct and indirect care functions.
5. May be expected to lift 25 pounds without assistance. Is required to obtain assistance when moving patients unable to assist in move, unless patient is in a wheelchair or gurney. May be required to push patients in wheelchairs or on gurneys.
6. Maintains current CPR certification.
*Responsibilities*
1. Helps Circulating Nurse open sterile supplies and prepares for each operative procedure.
2. Assists Surgeons as Scrub Nurse according to prescribed standards.
3. Scrubs gowns and gloves in accordance with performance standards.
4. Sets up table, instruments, and supplies according to the type of operation.
5. Assists and anticipates the needs of the Surgeons.
6. Maintains correct count of sponges and needles with Circulator.
7. Disposes of all sharps in biohazard sharps container.
8. Maintain aseptic technique at all times as dictated by accepted standards.
9. Assists in maintenance and care of specimens.
10. Assists in application of dressings, and in moving patients.
11. Decontaminates all equipment, instruments, and supplies, and cleans room as directed in procedures.
12. Maintains awareness of safety hazards and use of equipment to prevent damage or harm to personnel or patients.
13. Maintains/reorders inventory of supplies and equipment to assure availability and maintain set level.
14. Knows where all supplies are kept and is able to get to or put away accordingly.
15. Assists with emergency procedure as required.
16. Provides and makes available all supplies for the next surgery day.
17. Maintains and increases standards of performance and education.
18. Performs additional activities and duties as directed.
19. Participates in in-service education programs.
20. Participates in training, orientation, and staff development programs.
21. Keeps informed of current status O.R. Technician activities at local and national levels.
22. Presents a professional image representing O.R. service to patients and personnel.
23. Maintains confidentiality of all patients.
24. Recognizes and utilizes appropriate lines of communication.
25. Communicates a positive and caring attitude toward unit, peers, staff, and all other contacts.
26. Seeks guidance, direction, and assistance when needed.
27. Wraps appropriately and processes all supplies for steam sterilization in O.R. autoclave.
28. Maintains Attest log and performs Attest on O.R. autoclave.
29. Maintains and cleans autoclave according to recommended practices.
30. Records changes for patient use items for each surgery and give to O.R. Supervisor.
Job Types: Full-time, Part-time
Pay: $29.00 - $35.00 per hour
Expected hours: 20 – 35 per week
