RESEARCH INSTITUTE OF THE MUHC
The Research Institute of the McGill University Health Centre (RI-MUHC) is a world-renowned biomedical and hospital research centre. Located in Montreal, Quebec, the Institute is the research arm of the McGill University Health Centre (MUHC) affiliated with the Faculty of Medicine at McGill University. The RI-MUHC is supported in part by the Fonds de recherche du Québec - Santé (FRQS).
Position summary
Department / Research Program: Department of Surgery / Surgical and Interventional Sciences (SIS) Program
We are seeking a Research Assistant to join the Perioperative Care and Outcomes Research (PCOR) lab at the RI-MUHC Centre for Outcomes Research and Evaluation (CORE). Our work capitalizes on established and emerging principles of outcomes research to (1) create innovative, patient-centered, strategies to measure postoperative outcomes, (2) assess the comparative-effectiveness of contemporary interventions to enhance recovery and (3) develop approaches to reduce harms associated with perioperative care interventions (e.g., postoperative opioid overprescribing).
We are a highly productive and internationally renowned research group with a track-record of important contributions to the field of surgical outcomes research. The incumbent will work alongside Dr. Julio Fiore ).
General Duties
• Work with the Principal Investigator and Research Coordinator in the development and conduct of various research studies, including a multi-center Randomized Controlled Trial focused on opioid vs. opioid-free analgesia after breast surgery (PAIN-Alt Trial),
• Support lab research activities such as obtaining informed consent forms, recruitment of study participants, management of data collection documents, and data collection (qualitative and quantitative),
• Contribute to literature reviews,
• Assist with training and overseeing the work of students and other research personnel,
• Organize team meetings and maintain communications with project stakeholders,
• Act as a liaison with clinical services and community partners,
• Engage in administrative duties related to the research program,
• Assist with the preparation of reports, manuscripts, and grant applications.

Education / Experience

Education: Master's Degree
Field of Study: Health sciences/Epidemiology
Work Experience: An equivalent experience in clinical research is required for applicants not having a master's degree.


Required Skills


• Ability to work in-person at the Montreal General Hospital (PCOR headquarter) and relocate to other McGill-affiliated hospitals (i.e., Royal Victoria, Jewish General, Lachine) when required,
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team,
• Excellent organization, planning, and project management skills,
• Experience with clinical research design, conduct, analysis, and reporting,
• Superior English written and verbal communication skills,
• Ability to communicate in French.
Desirable Assets:
• Experience with assisting or coordinating randomized controlled trials,
• Experience with assisting or coordinating multicenter studies,
• Experience with research focused on surgical patients or patients with acute conditions,
• Knowledge of statistics and statistical packages (e.g. SPSS, SAS, Stata, R),
• Knowledge of data management using REDCap,
• Experience with scientific writing (e.g., manuscripts, grant applications).


Additional information

Status: Temporary, full time (35-hour workweek)
Pay Scale: Commensurate with education and experience. $49, $92,
Work Shift: Monday to Friday 9:00am to 5:00pm
Work Site: MGH, 1650 Cedar Ave.
