About Teradata At Teradata, we empower individuals and organizations to thrive by leveraging better information. Our innovative cloud analytics and data platform for AI enables businesses to harmonize data, trust AI, and accelerate innovation. With our solutions, top companies across various industries enhance business performance and enrich customer experiences, resulting in confident decision-making. Your Role As a Principal Architect / Distinguished Engineer, you will spearhead the strategic technical vision and architecture of our cloud platform, focusing on elasticity, scalability, and resilience. This influential position will allow you to drive innovation and make significant technology decisions that enhance our platform's ability to adapt to changing product needs. The ideal candidate will possess expertise in cloud elasticity patterns, multi-cloud capabilities, and modern infrastructure architectures. A profound understanding of the current market landscape and the strengths/limitations of various cloud providers, managed services, and open-source technologies is essential. Additionally, you will combine your knowledge of distributed systems with insights into cloud performance aspects such as storage, networking, I/O, and compute resource dynamics. Your role will be pivotal in enhancing our platform's elasticity by addressing scalability constraints and proposing strategic improvements. Key Responsibilities Develop and refine the architectural blueprint for a highly elastic, self-optimizing cloud platform. Create frameworks that enable real-time autoscaling, predictive scaling, capacity forecasting, and cost-aware elasticity. Stay informed about cloud provider offerings (AWS, Azure, GCP) and relevant industry tools, focusing on their performance and roadmap. Evaluate emerging technologies and vendor solutions, identifying opportunities that align with our objectives. Influence the long-term engineering strategy by collaborating with product, operations, and security teams to align architectural choices with business goals. Mentor senior technical leaders and engineering teams, driving excellence and establishing best practices for scalable cloud architecture. Formulate patterns for distributed systems that enhance workload placement and resource utilization while ensuring reliability and failure recovery. Design elasticity mechanisms aimed at improving cost efficiency without sacrificing performance or user experience. Lead the development of reference implementations, proofs-of-concept, and performance experiments to validate your design concepts. Investigate platform constraints and collaborate with teams to design alternative solutions or mitigations. Establish standards and tooling to ensure elasticity features are observable, testable, and ready for production. Who You Will Collaborate With You will work closely with Product Management and platform operations teams to ensure that scalability capabilities integrate smoothly with deployment pipelines and monitoring systems. Your Qualifications 10+ years of experience in large-scale distributed systems, cloud infrastructure, or platform engineering. A proven track record of architecting high-scale, elastic systems across multi-region or multi-cloud environments. In-depth knowledge of cloud provider elasticity primitives and orchestration systems (e.g., Kubernetes, serverless, autoscalers). What You Will Bring Experience with hybrid or edge-cloud architectures. Contributions to open-source cloud infrastructure projects. Experience as a Distinguished Engineer or Principal Engineer in a large-scale cloud-native organization. Your Future at Teradata We prioritize a people-first culture because we understand that our employees are crucial to our success.
