POSITION TITLE: Financial Clerk
CLASSIFICATION: '8'
DEPARTMENT: Faculty of Science
RATE OF PAY: As per schedule `A' - Unifor 2458 Part Time Collective Agreement
HOURS OF WORK: Monday to Thursday 8:30am-2:00pm (½ hour lunch
Friday 8:30am-12:30pm (no lunch break)
Up to a maximum of 24 hrs per week – work schedule may vary)

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITY:
The Financial Clerk provides financial and administrative support for the Faculty of Science, School of the
Environment, Integrative Biology and Biomedical Sciences.
SUMMARY OF DUTIES:
1. Prepares journal entries.
2. Verifies requests for purchases and reimbursements for policy compliance (i.e. Purchasing, travel policy, etc.).
3. Prepares purchase requests/ orders or use P-card and administers payments of invoices.
4. Reconciles purchases to monthly statements and resolves any issues identified
5. Administers the assigned departmental budgets including trust accounts, Professional Development Funds, Travel funds and other special funds.
6. Assists in collection and compilation of data required for special reports (i.e. IQAP, funding requests, and special funds).
7. Acts as liaison to inform Facilities Services of Biology Building related issues that may arise and work with the Facilities Maintenance Technician to ensure they get resolved.
8. Ensures researchers/students in Biomedical Sciences and Integrative Biology have the correct access to buildings and rooms.
9. Other duties as assigned.
ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:
• Diploma in office administration/business/commerce/accounting and/or experience in a financial support position as it relates to the duties of the position
• Knowledge in accounting processes
• Experience in a computerized accounting system e.g. UWinsite Finance
• Experience and knowledge in the application of financial policies
• Ability to maintain strict confidentiality and the ability to exercise tact, diplomacy, discretion, integrity and sound judgement at all times
• Ability to take initiative along with strong problem solving and analytical skills
• Well organized, able to maintain tight reporting deadlines as well as be able to work independently with minimal supervision
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
• Excellent written and oral communication and attention to detail/accuracy
• Excellent computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office Applications (Excel, Word, Teams), Adobe, use of electronic mail, and the Internet are required.
