The Sous Chef plays a pivotal role in the kitchen, reporting directly to the Executive Chef.
- Supports the Executive Chef in food preparation, cooking, plating, and menu development.
- Leads line cooks and prep staff, providing guidance, feedback, and training opportunities.
- Ensures station readiness, production schedules, and daily prep lists are up-to-date.
- Maintains kitchen organization, cleanliness, and adherence to safety and sanitation standards.
- Monitors inventory levels, communicating needs for ordering or replenishment to optimize efficiency.
- Aids in managing food waste, portioning, and cost controls to minimize losses.
- Steps in to oversee kitchen operations during the Executive Chef's absence, ensuring seamless continuity.
- Collaborates with front-of-house teams to coordinate smooth service flow and exceptional guest experiences.
Key qualifications include 2-5 years of experience in a professional kitchen, proficiency in culinary techniques, leadership abilities, and strong communication and multitasking skills.
