Sous Chef Job Description

The Sous Chef plays a vital role in managing daily kitchen activities, overseeing staff, aiding with menu preparation, ensuring food quality and freshness, and monitoring ordering and stocking.

  • Assist in supervising back-of-house staff, including receiving, storing, prepping, and cooking.
  • Maintain updated and accurate recipes and costing for all dishes.
  • Oversight of methods of preparation, portion sizes, and timeliness of food preparation; control food usage to minimize waste.
  • Ensure cleanliness of the kitchen area.
  • Promote teamwork and quality service through daily communication and coordination with the restaurant team.
  • Source supplies and equipment to ensure best quality and pricing.
  • Plan, assign, and coordinate work for Line Cooks team.
  • Suggest methods and procedures for Line Cooks.
  • Maintain accurate production records.
Required Skills and Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have strong leadership skills, excellent culinary knowledge, and the ability to work well under pressure. They must be able to maintain a clean and organized workspace, prioritize tasks, and delegate responsibilities effectively.
