Reporting to the Manager of Family Supports, the Supervisor, in conjunction with the Agency's management team, is responsible for the integration and day-to-day coordination of onsite services. This position will be responsible for supporting community development and liaising with community stakeholders. The Supervisor will support all staff working on site, and in virtual programs, in delivering services through an integrated approach to service delivery.
Primary Responsibilities:
  • In consultation with the Agency's management team, will implement and coordinate the community services and activities offered by the Agency through an integrated service delivery model.
  • Ensuring program and site adheres to all current licensing requirements, with NCFST protocols.
  • In partnership with Managers and funding stakeholders review projects regularly and implement revised work plans as indicated by Managers to ensure objectives are achieved within the allotted timeframes.
  • Develop and implement plans to ensure ongoing community development; coordinating and facilitating outreach.
  • Enforcing and complying with established policies, procedures, and programs and, in consultation with the Manager, Early Years and Community Programs, developing new policies and procedures as needed.
  • Coordinate community forums and program initiatives to ensure services, workshops etc. are available to community residents as needed.
  • Represent NCFST on assigned initiatives by sitting on community councils and maintaining ongoing communication with various community resources and services.
  • Provide the day-to-day supervision of permanent, contract and supply staff.
  • Coordinate and facilitate regular team meetings, and provide input to appropriate managers for individual supervision as appropriate.
  • Develop, coordinate, maintain and supervise a pool of internal and external supply staff; including outreach to external supply agencies and developing relationship to ensure culturally appropriate supply staffing.
  • Provide initial service coordination and assessment to appropriate referrals for all program participants.
  • Liaise with program related resources such as Elders, traditional teachers, volunteers, community stakeholders and service providers (keeping with licensing requirements).
  • Program development for Head Start program and Childcare program, quality assurance and updating on activity reports.
  • Working knowledge on the six Head Start program components: Indigenous culture and language; education and school readiness; health promotion; nutrition. social support; and parental involvement as it pertains to Aboriginal Headstart Programming.
  • Collaborate and participate as a member of the larger Early Years management team.
  • Represent Native Child and Family Services of Toronto at community events.
  • Attend internal and external committee meetings.
  • Participate, support and attend site/agency events and community functions that would help promote Childcare and Aboriginal Headstart Programs.
  • Prepare briefs, proposals and reports as required.
  • Oversee financial requests and activities (i.e. tokens, food cards, requisitions, and petty cash) and ensure the accuracy of financial and service data; managing fee charts and monthly fee payments for up to 112 clients, including processing fees and storing at 30 College.
  •  Oversee incident reporting as necessary.
  • Assist in the design, development and distribution of promotional aids for programs.
  • Provide student and volunteer supervision in program areas.
  • Providing floor coverage when required to ensure ratio.
  • Carry out other duties and assignments as required.
  • Oversee and perform office admin and reception duties.

CORE DISTINCTIONS:
  • Aboriginal Headstart Supervisor may be required to travel to supervise multiple locations.
  • Aboriginal Headstart Supervisor oversees a 47-week program, with the remaining 5 weeks the supervisor must reassign staff to other childcare programs and as supervisor, support other childcare programs onsite.
  • Supervisors, Childcare and Aboriginal Headstart Programs must know the Childcare and Early Years Act, Quality Assurance Children Services, AQI, and Blue Print Curriculum.
  • Aboriginal Headstart Supervisor must know the Childcare and Early Years Act and the Blue Print Curriculum.

Qualifications, Knowledge and Skills:
  • Preference will be given to those lived experience as an Indigenous person with the ability to transfer traditional knowledge and teachings, respecting the unique Cultural distinctions and variations found throughout Turtle Island. 
  • Must be registered with the College of Early Childhood Educators with experience as an RECE with minimum 2 years experience in childcare; 
  • Pass a Vulnerable Sector Police Record Check.
  • Current First Aid and CPR (level C) certificates. 
  • Demonstrated ability to resolve conflicts, elicit cooperation, negotiate and to collaborate.
  • Consultative and presentation skills to liaise effectively with community resources and services.
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritise competing work demands and to manage a high volume of work.
  • Practical knowledge of relevant legislation (Childcare and Early Years Act, Toronto Public Health, Quality Assurance, Occupational Health and Safety, etc.).
  • Strong organizational and self-management skills with demonstrated ability to achieve personal, professional, and organizational performance targets.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills, and skilled in customer service.
  • Competence with computer-based technology for the purpose of scheduling, data entry, information sourcing, budget management, fees, report writing and program quality control.
  • Demonstrated understanding, and commitment to, integrating the Native Child and Family Services of Toronto Mission and values in to practice, service and relationships.
  • Demonstrated understanding of workplace Health and Safety practices and understanding of an employee's responsibility under current legislation.
  • ASSET - Demonstrated leadership, performance management, coaching, team building and motivation skills, to provide direction, guidance and advice to program staff.
  • ASSET - Knowledge of First Nations, Inuit and Metis culture, traditions and teachings.
  • ASSET - Knowledge of Indigenous supports and services within the City of Toronto.
  • ASSET – Knowledge of accounting and accounts receivable/reconciliation.
