Job Summary:

The Resource Behaviour Consultant supports inclusion in licensed Before and After School Programs (BASP) by providing direct service and consultation. This role enhances the capacity of educators working with children experiencing behavioural and mental health challenges. The consultant collaborates with interdisciplinary teams to deliver professional learning and build responsive, inclusive environments.

Reports To:

Manager of Quality, Inclusion and EarlyON Centres

Work Environment & Hours:

Licensed BASP centres in Hamilton, shared office environment, and own vehicle. 37.5 hours/week with flexible scheduling including early mornings and evenings.

Wage:

$ $36.16 per hour

Key Responsibilities:

  • Visit BASP programs to support staff in addressing behavioural/mental health concerns.
  • Use developmental tools and observations to identify environmental influences and strategies.
  • Recommend accommodations and materials to support child development.
  • Share community resources and research on behaviour and mental health.
  • Develop and support implementation of behavioural strategies and safety plans.
  • Provide coaching, mentoring, and informal supports to program staff.
  • Refer families to additional community services as needed.

Professional Learning Responsibilities:

  • Develop and facilitate professional learning opportunities for educators.
  • Ensure consistent and cohesive approaches to professional development across programs.

Training & Development:

  • Participate in mandatory training and in-service sessions.
  • Engage in ongoing professional development and skill acquisition.

Required Skills:

  • Clinical: assessment, intervention planning, behaviour management, evidence-informed practices.
  • Interpersonal: relationship-building, collaboration, conflict resolution.
  • Problem Solving: risk identification, decision-making within ethical frameworks.
  • Leadership: aligning vision with practice, motivating stakeholders.
  • Organization: task prioritization, documentation, time management.
  • Communication: clear written and oral communication, public speaking.
  • Professionalism: confidentiality, ethical conduct, agency representation.

Experience:

  • Minimum 5 years working with children with behavioural/mental health concerns.
  • Experience mentoring and coaching educators.
  • Ability to work independently and lead within a team.

Knowledge:

  • French language is an asset.
  • Understanding of inclusion, emergent curriculum, and trauma-informed practices.
  • Familiarity with Hamilton's early learning community and diverse populations.
  • Knowledge of adult learning principles and curriculum development.

Education & Certifications:

  • Diploma in ECE or Child and Youth Work, or BA in a related field.
  • Standard First Aid Certificate is an asset.
  • Valid G class license, own vehicle, and $1 million liability insurance.

Job Types: Full-time, Permanent

Pay: $35.11-$36.16 per hour
