OpportunityMacEwan University is seeking a Relative in Residence for a full-time continuing opportunity with our kihêw waciston, Indigenous Centre.
Reporting to the Manager, kihêw waciston, you will provide direct support to the Knowledge Keepers and Elders with the planning, organizing and delivery of cultural supports and educational program and resources to contribute to a culturally supportive teaching, learning and work environment for students, staff & external community.
Key responsibilities include:
- Supports Knowledge Keepers with organizing cultural awareness training for University administration, staff, and students with the objective of increasing understanding of Indigenous culture and traditions;
- Assists with the delivery of classroom cultural programming, ceremony and teachings including creation of presentations and set up of resources/supplies;
- Acts as a liaison between Elders, Knowledge Keepers and facilitators and external requests;
- Manages the calendars and schedules of Elders and Knowledge Keepers;
- Assists with the development and implementation of program evaluation and reports;
- Maintains an appropriate records and information management system;
- Assists with development, design, and production of publications on program(s), presentations and resource materials in accordance to established University policies/procedures;
- Responds to telephone enquires/e-mails, troubleshoot and problem-solve issues;
- Assists visitors with information on the kihêw waciston Centre services and refers students for additional support services when necessary; and
- Responds to sensitive and confidential situations with professionalism, confidentiality, and respect.

- Ability to work collaboratively with Knowledge Keepers and provide necessary support
- Demonstrate a high degree of cultural competence
- Ability to work independently and build effective interpersonal relationships internally and externally
- Demonstrate excellent organizational and communication skills
- Ability to speak to large groups of people
- Understand Indigenous cultural protocols and practices
- Indigenous language is considered an asset.
- A minimum of an Office Administration diploma with extensive knowledge of Indigenous history and culture.
- Familiarity with working along side Knowledge Keepers.
- An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
- The candidate must possess a current, valid driver's license in good standing with the ability to drive as required for the role.
