You will be working at the largest production site for civil aircraft situated in Hamburg. Its location on the southern banks of the river Elbe includes the option to commute by ferry. Master thesis in Robotics

We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Master's student to contribute to an innovative project in aircraft manufacturing automation. This project focuses on developing and enhancing a Virtual Commissioning (VC) simulation system to test a complex automation setup used for drilling, countersinking, and riveting aircraft components. The goal is to advance the validation and testing processes of the automation system, ensuring its functionality and performance before deployment in production.

Your tasks and responsibilities

  • Focus on developing and implementing a framework for scenario analysis and performance optimization
  • You will identify failure scenarios within the system, evaluate corrective actions using the VC simulation and ensure optimal performance.
  • You are striving to find potential solutions to failure scenarios by comparing the behaviour of nominal and corrective systems
  • Suggest optimizations or alternative strategies to recover from failure scenarios and meet production requirements



Desired skills and qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in a Master’s degree program in Mechatronics, Robotics, Electrical Engineering, or a related field
  • Strong theoretical and practical knowledge in automation, robotics, and simulation systems
  • Experience in integrating hardware and software, as well as working with simulation tools and automation systems
  • Understanding of control systems and communication protocols in industrial automation
  • Familiarity with simulation tools (e.g., CATIA V5, SIMIT etc.) and virtualization tools (e.g., Docker, WSL2, etc.), as well as programming are desirable
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a proven capacity to work independently and collaborate effectively within a team
