Overview
We are seeking a dynamic and strategic Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to lead our financial operations and drive sustainable growth.

Key Responsibilities / Strategic Financial Leadership

  • Develop and execute comprehensive financial strategies that support rapid growth, multi-division expansion, and long-term stability.

Financial Reporting, Controls & Compliance

  • Oversee preparation of accurate, timely financial statements (P&L, Balance Sheet, Cash Flow) in accordance with GAAP, IFRS, IAS.
  • Maintain robust internal controls aligned with SOX, COSO, and regulatory best practices.
  • Own the monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes—ensuring accuracy, completeness, and audit readiness.
  • Ensure CRA compliance (GST/HST, payroll, taxable benefits), WCB filings, insurance audits, and provincial trucking regulations.
  • Lead external audits, trust reviews, and bank reporting.

Corporate Accounting & Operational Finance

  • Oversee AP, AR, reconciliations, accruals, inventory costing, prepaids, depreciation schedules, asset continuity, and cost allocations.
  • Build scalable accounting systems and processes suitable for a multi-division organization.
  • Present monthly financial and operational KPI dashboards to ownership.

Payroll Management & Workforce Compliance

  • Oversee full-cycle payroll across complex compensation structures: hourly, salary, per-load, per-tonne, hybrid, mechanic hours, commissions.
  • Ensure compliance with:
  • BC ESA trucking rules (HOS, cycles, overtime, rest periods)
  • Alberta ESA
  • CRA requirements: source deductions, T4s, ROEs, taxable benefits
  • Audit payroll for accuracy; oversee LOA calculations, vacation accruals, stat pay, banked time, and blended pay models.

Advanced Job Costing, Project Accounting & Margin Analysis

  • Build and maintain advanced job costing systems for:
  • Trucking operations (hourly, trip-based, tonnage, haul cycles)
  • Shop and mechanical services
  • Fabrication, machining, and custom builds
  • Capital projects and RFP-driven contracts
  • Allocate direct and indirect costs including labor, fuel, parts, subcontractors, equipment burden, and overhead.
  • Create and manage project-level P&Ls, cost-to-complete forecasts, and earned value analysis.
  • Provide division-specific margin analysis and profitability forecasts.

Budgeting, Forecasting & Financial Modelling

  • Lead budgeting cycles, rolling forecasts, and multiyear projections.
  • Build breakeven analyses per truck, per division, and per contract.
  • Develop rate models for hourly, tonne, and trip pricing; support pricing updates for Operations & Sales.
  • Conduct sensitivity analyses for fuel surcharges, cost escalations, fleet growth, and cash flow planning.

Contract Review, Pricing Strategy & RFP Support

  • Support Sales, Operations, and Project teams with:
  • Pricing sheets
  • RFP submissions
  • Bid compliance
  • Financial modeling
  • Safety and insurance package requirements (COR/SECOR, COI, WCB)
  • Review client and subcontractor agreements for margin protection, risk mitigation, and lien/contractual safeguards.

Operational Integration (Dispatch, Safety, Shop & Field)

  • Collaborate with Dispatch, Operations, Safety, Shop Foreman, and Field Supervisors to connect financial accuracy with real-world operations.
  • Ensure alignment of field data with accounting through:
  • Digital BOLs
  • Timekeeping systems
  • FLHA/JHA documentation
  • Work orders and maintenance logs
  • Integrate Safety and Accounting to ensure:
  • Training, certifications, and compliance are linked to labor costing
  • COR/SECOR documentation supports invoicing and cost recovery

System Implementation & Process Improvement

  • Lead migration from manual/legacy processes to integrated digital systems:
  • QBO, Sage, or ERP platforms
  • SharePoint
  • Digital dispatch-to-invoice workflows
  • Develop dashboards, SOPs, accounting manuals, and administrative processes tied to operational reality.
  • Ensure data integrity, standardized reporting, and clean systems architecture.

Treasury, Cash Management & M&A

  • Manage corporate treasury, liquidity planning, credit facilities, and banking relationships.
  • Oversee investment strategies and capital allocation.
  • Lead M&A efforts including:
  • Due diligence
  • Valuations
  • Deal structuring
  • Integration planning

Risk Management & Financial Governance

  • Identify and mitigate financial, operational, and contractual risks early.
  • Monitor cost overruns, undocumented work, billing gaps, and unclaimed receivables.
  • Maintain compliance with provincial/federal trucking regulations and internal approval workflows.

Leadership, Team Building & Organizational Development

  • Recruit, train, and lead the finance team as the company scales.
  • Establish KPIs for finance and administrative staff.
  • Implement cross-training to build a resilient, multi-skilled financial department.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, accuracy, and continuous improvement.

Ideal Candidate Profile

  • CPA or equivalent designation preferred
  • Experience in trucking, heavy equipment, construction, fabrication, or industrial operations is a major asset
  • Comfortable being hands-on while building a scalable finance function
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP/IFRS, internal controls, job costing, and operational finance
  • Ability to lead, mentor, and grow a team in a fast-paced environment
  • Serve as trusted advisor to ownership, providing insight on capital planning, pricing strategy, cost reduction, and organizational scaling.
  • Lead financial scenario modelling, capital planning, and investment analysis for fleet growth, equipment acquisitions, and new business lines.
  • Support partnerships, joint ventures, financing initiatives, and investor/lender packages.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $160,000.00-$200,000.00 per year
