We are looking for an experienced Software Engineer-II to contribute their expertise to a high-performing Software Engineering team focused on delivering innovative digital media products and experiences for the Atlanta Journal-Constitution (AJC). This is a hands-on, collaborative role that supports our mission to deliver exceptional content experiences to our audience.

Role Summary:

The Software Engineer-II is part of the digital product team tasked with building consumer and content products & components aligned to deliver quality content experiences to the AJC audience. The Software Engineer will contribute to all aspects of the software development process. They will follow code standards and best practices, will fully engage with other members of the product team and will participate in all phases of product lifecycles. This role reports to the Senior Manager of Software Engineering and requires an experienced member of inter-operational teams who thrives in a collaborative, fast-paced environment and brings a systems-thinking approach to the table.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in a related discipline and 2 years' experience in a related field. The right candidate could also have a different combination, such as a master's degree and up to 2 years' experience, or 14 years' experience in a related field.

What You'll Do:

  • Play a pivotal role in building and maintaining the AJC's suite of products and services, across multiple CMSes (ArcXP, Payload, etc), platforms (web, app, feeds) and ecosystems (AWS, Vercel, etc)
  • Provide constructive feedback to other team members (via code reviews, 1:1 interactions and similar activities)
  • Collaborate with technical and non-technical parties across the company, through estimating LOEs, participating in brainstorming sessions, engaging third parties and project retrospectives
  • Demonstrate a strong work ethic, commitment to excellence and the ability to self-start and work independently
  • Assist in troubleshooting and resolving high priority production and client-facing issues

What You'll Bring to the Team:

  • Excellent teamwork & communication skills, with experience working within a cross-functional team
  • Experience transforming UX/UI designs into compliant, performant code
  • Experience writing TS & JS that adheres to modern best practices
  • Experience leveraging AI tools (e.g. Copilot, Amazon Q, Claude, etc.) to enhance product delivery and increase efficiency
  • Experience with JS frameworks , React, React Native) / Agile methodology / Jira (or similar ticket/task tracking) / Git / CLI
  • Experience with a formal QA/testing process, CI/CD workflow pattern & demonstrated ability to troubleshoot and error-trace through complex code (both first- and third-party)

USD 87, ,800.00 per year

Compensation:

Compensation includes a base salary of $87, $130, The base salary may vary within the anticipated base pay range based on factors such as the ultimate location of the position and the selected candidate's knowledge, skills, and abilities. Position may be eligible for additional compensation that may include an incentive program.

Benefits:

The Company offers eligible employees the flexibility to take as much vacation with pay as they deem consistent with their duties, the company's needs, and its obligations; seven paid holidays throughout the calendar year; and up to 160 hours of paid wellness annually for their own wellness or that of family members.
