Responsibilities

Within the confines of our site building, the Overhead Crane Operator will safely and efficiently operate an overhead crane by remote control to transfer various steel products (coil, sheet, pipe and bar) and other commodities that arrive at our facility by truck or rail to our valued customers.  

  • Unloading steel products from railcars/trucks.   
  • Support inventory control with accurate documentation. 
  • Accurately verify weight information off manifest to not exceed limit and document inventory.  
  • Perform routine maintenance on vehicles and auxiliary equipment.  
  • Provide production data on tags or labels.  
  • Work in adherence to all safe work practices, procedures, as well as all regulatory requirements.  
  • Suggest changes in working conditions and use of equipment to increase efficiency of yard, shop, department, or work crew.  
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor/manager.  
You Possess
  • Previous relevant experience required
  • Experience with routine maintenance operations 
  • Chain, sling and rigging experience and/or previous overhead crane certification preferred
  • A positive team attitude
  • A strong safety mindset
  • Strong attention to detail 
  • Ability to climb railcars/ladders safely, lift 50lbs, and swing 10lbs sledge hammer
  • Exceptionally high level of hand-eye coordination 
  • Ability to work outside in all weather conditions (snow, rain, sub-freezing temps, heat, wind)
  • Solid interpersonal skills that allow one to work effectively in a diverse working environment
