Fantastic Beasts Veterinary Services in Parksville, BC is looking for an experienced Registered Veterinary Technologist to lead our team of veterinary unicorns.
We are a 7-vet hospital that is focused on veterinary accessibility, with 3 distinct divisions. The first is a traditional hospital providing primary care, surgery, dentistry, diagnostics, and urgent services with all your standard in-house equipment and capacity. The second is division is dedicated to working with non-profit animal rescue organizations providing high-quality, high-volume spay/neuter services. We also have a Pawsitive Care division that aims to bring low-cost services to those facing financial difficulties.

- CE allowance of $750/year and 3 days off paid

Salary: $77,000 - $80,000 CAD per annum

Duties:
- Maintaining working order of instruments/equipment/monitors
- Acting as liaison between clinic and Idexx services
- Ordering lab supplies
- Carrying out regular lab machine maintenance
- Supporting veterinarians in carrying out all daily activities
- Supervising patient and client care
- Managing veterinary technicians and assistants
- Arranging scheduling of techs and assistants
- Supervising and teaching Junior technicians
- Performing technical procedures without supervision in dogs, cats, and rabbits, including but not limited to:
o Collection of vital parameters such as temperature/pulse/respiration
o Venipuncture
o IV and urinary catheter placement
o Anesthetic induction and intubation
o Anesthetic monitoring and maintenance
o Surgical preparation
o Extubation and recovery from anesthetic
o Running blood, urine, fecal, and cytology samples on in-house Idexx machines
o Prepping blood, urine, fecal, and cytology samples for review by a pathologist at a send-out lab
o Producing radiographs
o Collecting and analyzing urinary and fecal samples
o Preparing and administering medications and vaccines
o Providing wound and bandage care
Requirements:
- Completion of a two-or three year animal health/veterinary technology college program is required
- 4+ years of experience is required
- Experience in teaching as evidenced by Post-graduate or CE certifications is an asset
- Strong communication skills both written and verbal
- Ability to stand for long periods of time
- Manual dexterity
- Ability to work independently and in a team setting
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment
· Available to work evenings and weekends as required
