Hours: 35 hours/week (evening availability required)

Contract Term: December 1st, 2025- March 31st, 2027, with possibility of extension

Location: Sudbury, with work conducted in both office and community-based settings

Summary of Position:

Sudbury and Area Victim Services (SAVS) is seeking a dedicated Youth Engagement and Gender-Based Violence Prevention Specialist to join our team.

In this role, you will lead initiatives that foster awareness, education, and prevention of gender-based violence among youth in our community. You will work closely with community partners, and young people to develop and deliver engaging programs that promote healthy relationships, personal safety, and respect.

This is an exciting opportunity to make a meaningful impact by helping youth build the knowledge, confidence, and skills to recognize and prevent violence and to contribute to a safer, more inclusive Sudbury region.

The specialist will also lead public education and community engagement initiatives by developing and delivering presentations, workshops, and outreach activities to youth and community partners. These programs will focus on gender-based violence, and human trafficking specific to youth ages 12-25, providing awareness, prevention strategies, and resources to support young people and vulnerable populations. The facilitator will also coordinate activities for the Greater Sudbury Anti-Human Trafficking Coalition and lead the development of a Youth Advisory Committee, ensuring youth voices are included in program planning and community initiatives to strengthen overall community capacity to prevent and respond to GBV and related issues.

The Youth Engagement and GBV Prevention Specialist is responsible for working underneath the direction of the Executive Director for Sudbury and Area Victim Services in the implementation of youth programming.

This role will work in alignment with the mission of Sudbury and Area Victim Services, agreements with funders, and the needs of the participants.

Education and Experience:

  • Post-secondary degree/diploma in social work, social service work, education, or a related field is required.
  • Previous experience working with youth in educational, community, or social service settings is required.
  • Experience in gender-based violence prevention, victim services, or community outreach is an asset.
  • A Master of Social Work (MSW) degree or equivalent education/experience is considered an asset.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Strong crisis intervention skills and the ability to respond effectively in sensitive situations.
  • Knowledge of community resources and supports available to youth.
  • Awareness of and sensitivity to the experiences, challenges, and needs of youth.
  • Experience working with diverse populations of youth, including those from marginalized or underrepresented communities.
  • Understanding of Victim Services programs, outreach initiatives, and community engagement practices.
  • Demonstrated effective communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong advocacy and negotiation abilities.
  • Proven capacity to build and maintain positive relationships with diverse individuals, groups, and community partners.
  • Excellent networking skills with the ability to establish and sustain collaborative partnerships.
  • Highly organized with strong time management skills; able to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines in a dynamic environment.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment, initiative, and discretion when working independently.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Flexibility to work varied hours, including days, evenings, and occasional weekends, as required.
  • Fluency in English is required; proficiency in French (oral and written) is considered a strong asset.
  • Must provide a satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Criminal Record Check.
  • Must have reliable transportation and valid G license

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop, coordinate, and deliver youth-focused GBV prevention programs and initiatives.
  • Plan and implement public education workshops, presentations, and outreach targeting youth and community partners.
  • Address issues including gender-based violence, and human trafficking through education and prevention initiatives.
  • Coordinate the Greater Sudbury Anti-Human Trafficking Coalition, including meetings, communications, and collaborative initiatives.
  • Lead the development of a Youth Advisory Committee to ensure youth participation and input in program planning and community initiatives.
  • Build and maintain strong partnerships with schools, youth organizations, community agencies, and other stakeholders.
  • Advocate for youth safety and empowerment through education, resources, and referral to appropriate supports.
  • Track program outcomes, evaluate initiatives, and provide reports to the Executive Director.
  • Participate in relevant training, professional development, and community networking opportunities.
