Key Responsibilities:
We have a need for an experienced safety professional to provide expertise to support and advance the company's implementation of best practice safety programs. This is a high impact safety leadership role for an exceptional individual who enjoys and excels in both strategic and executional aspects of the safety and health field.

­

Reporting to a Capital Program Manager, this position will provide oversight, leadership, technical advice and support, and direction to the Regulated Engineering Services team for the work that we plan, design and execute using internal and external forces.­ Primary focus on construction activities related to the generation, terminal station, transmission and distribution assets of Newfoundland and Labrador Hydro. Working closely with the engineering team you will be responsible to promote and support compliance with the Hydro's Safety Management Systems.

­

Through an established field presence, provide coaching and support to Project Managers, Contract Managers and Contract Management­ Representatives (CMRs) involved in the execution of work.­ Ensure the Contractor Safety Management Program is effectively implemented through front end involvement in tender specifications and bid reviews, and ongoing field monitoring.­ Act as a liaison between project teams and regional safety personnel. Conduct field monitoring and audits related to work managed by Engineering.

You have a comprehensive understanding of progressive safety processes, risk assessment and are able to influence the development and maintenance of positive relationships with multiple stakeholders related to safety and health programs.

What We're Looking For:
A strong knowledge base in the following areas is required:

  • Auditing of Safety Management Systems
  • Certified incident investigation techniques (eg. TapRoot, SCAT, etc.)
  • Industrial safety processes
  • Risk assessments, safe operating procedures as well as standards and training
  • Relevant OHS legislation and associated industry standards

General knowledge of the hydro electric utility or other capital intensive industry would be considered an asset.

­

What You'll Need:

  • University graduation with a Bachelor degree in Science, Engineering or Occupational Health and Safety; supplemented by additional training in Safety and Health Management Systems;
  • Must be certified, or eligible to be certified, as a Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP);
  • Minimum of seven years progressively responsible experience in planning and executing field work and administering regulatory process;
  • Knowledge of Safety Management Systems (ISO and the development of corporate programs and standards.
