ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES The Essential Duties and Responsibilities are intended to present a descriptive list of the range of duties performed for this position and are not intended to reflect all duties performed within the job. Other duties may be assigned. Commitment to maintaining database security and integrity. This involves implementing security measures and procedures to protect sensitive information and ensure data accuracy, understanding and implementing NIST REV controls, conducting regular analysis of potential vulnerabilities, and collaborating with the Census database administration team to ensure successful patching and configuration of database servers. (Note: This role focuses on familiarity with these processes, not direct management of database servers.) Support both incoming and outgoing interfaces with external data sources, ensuring data integrity between systems. This includes creating, maintaining, and troubleshooting these interfaces, encompassing jobs, data feeds, and files. Strong experience in database design and modeling, specifically with Oracle. This includes working with tables, keys, and constraints, as well as developing and maintaining functions and procedures (PL/SQL). You should also be proficient in using the scheduler to create and maintain database jobs. •
Managing database schema and data changes under version control (GitHub), similar to application code, allowing for change tracking, facilitating rollbacks, and ensuring consistency across environments.

A bachelor’s degree is required •
3-5 years of experience in database development or administration. •
Ability to work independently with minimal oversight. Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Other Characteristics •
Familiarity with Oracle's •
Experience with CI/CD and automation, including the ability to automate database changes using pipelines (Jenkins or GitHub Actions). •
Well-versed in version control for database management. You'll manage database schema and data changes under version control (GitHub), similar to application code, allowing for change tracking, facilitating rollbacks, and ensuring consistency across environments. •
Ability to write and optimize complex database queries, including the use of materialized views, to ensure efficient data retrieval. •
Strong experience with general Oracle database administration tasks, including configuring and managing backups and restores, and ensuring optimal database performance.
Preferred •
Strong experience with PostgreSQL is strongly preferred. •
Experience working with and managing databases in AWS (e.g. RDS) is strongly preferred.

WORK ENVIRONMENT Work Environment characteristics described here are representative of those that must be borne by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The job is performed in an office setting with exposure to computer screens and requires extensive use of a computer, keyboard, mouse, and multi-line telephone system. The work described herein is primarily in a modern office setting. Occasional travel may be required. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES •
