POSITION DESCRIPTION

Art Omi is seeking a full-time Communications Manager to support communications, branding, and public relations for its exhibitions, residencies, and arts education programming. This is an exciting opportunity for someone interested in supporting the growth of a highly-regarded contemporary arts organization and developing their expertise across all aspects of professional communications. The Communications Manager brings creativity and initiative to this multifaceted role as a key member of a dynamic team.

This position reports to the Communications Director, and works across all areas of the organization to ensure that Art Omi's mission, goals, and brand standards are communicated and upheld throughout all platforms.

MAJOR AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY

The Communications Manager is responsible for the day-to-day management of Art Omi's online presence, including its social media, website, and newsletters. This position also serves as the primary steward of Art Omi's digital archive and email marketing CRM. As a vital part of their work, The Communications Manager undertakes in-house graphic design for selected marketing visuals, print collateral, and signage to complement the work of our freelance graphic designer who drives the organization's visual identity and creates high-level visual assets.

Additionally, this role supports event publicity, strategy, and occasional program documentation via photography and video.

The Communications Manager is also a leading voice in the Communications Department contributing to large-scale projects, media strategy, and fostering relationships with colleagues in other departments.

  • Draft, edit, and post original multimedia content and copy across multiple platforms including Instagram, Facebook, Mailchimp, and the Art Omi website under the guidance of the Communications Director. This may include occasional work outside of typical office hours and on weekends to ensure posts are being added to Art Omi's channels in a timely manner.
  • Utilize Adobe Creative Cloud (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, and Premiere) to design visual collateral to support marketing and fundraising initiatives.
  • Maintain a clear and distinctive voice across all platforms, which reflects Art Omi's mission, goals, and brand standards and ensures appropriate and equitable representation of all programs.
  • Implement content edits and new posts on Art Omi's website via its CMS.
  • Monitor, respond to, and engage with constituent responses on social media in a timely and professional manner.
  • Contribute to the writing, photography, videography, and audio recording and production for publishing of content for Art Omi's social media, website, programs, and events.
  • Maintain Art Omi's email marketing CRM.
  • Contribute to and adhere to organizational standards related to the archiving of Art Omi's digital assets, including program and event documentation.
  • Update external event calendars with Art Omi's events.
  • Liaise with external collaborators and vendors.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Proven communications and marketing experience, preferably in a nonprofit and/or arts organization.
  • Superior writing, editing, and proofreading skills, with excellent attention to detail.
  • Well-versed in strategic social media, email marketing, and website management via a CMS.
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Cloud, particularly InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, and Premiere, Google Workspace, and common office software.
  • Strong time management skills that enable successful and agile management of multiple overlapping deadlines and competing priorities in a fast-paced environment. The Communications Manager should be highly organized, able to multitask, and manage their workflow in collaboration with the Communications Director to effectively prioritize and complete tasks in a timely manner, while also adapting to evolving needs.
  • The ability to work both collaboratively and independently, with a proactive mindset and desire to take initiative and ownership of their work.
  • Familiarity with current marketing trends and arts industry conventions.
  • Flexibility and willingness to take on additional responsibilities as needed.
  • Intellectual curiosity and an eagerness to grow their knowledge and deepen their expertise through collaboration with other members of the Art Omi team.
  • A background or strong interest in contemporary art, architecture, literature, and/or performing arts.
  • Photography and videography (capture and editing) skills for occasional documentation of onsite events are a plus.
  • Prior experience with web and socials SEO a plus.

Candidates will also demonstrate a commitment to Art Omi's mission, working to advance its position within the field and an ability to advocate effectively for the organization and its goals in professional and social settings.

The Communications Manager is a position where there is significant room for growth both within the role itself and within the wider department.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

What follows is a general description of expectations for the work environment. We are open to making modifications to support people of all abilities whenever feasible.

Work is conducted both onsite and remotely, at the discretion of the Communications Director and Co-Executive Directors. Work hours are Monday–Friday, 9 AM–5 PM. Some occasional nights and weekends are required. Work takes place primarily indoors, encompassing typical professional office operations and equipment.
