Position Summary:
The Heavy Equipment Mechanic is responsible for diagnosing, troubleshooting, and repairing fleet equipment to ensure optimal performance and safety. This role involves conducting failure analysis, performing preventive maintenance, and completing accurate documentation of repairs. The mechanic maintains a clean, compliant work environment, adheres to company policies, and communicates effectively with management regarding equipment needs and safety concerns.
Hours: 7:00 AM - 3:00 PM
Essential Duties:
Diagnoses, troubleshoots, and repairs fleet equipment safely and correctly
Conducts failure analysis, repairs, and rebuilds fleet equipment components correctly
Informs management about housekeeping opportunities, harmful working conditions, and unsafe work practices, and suggests corrective actions
Identifies and informs management of broken tools and missing supplies required for performing repairs on fleet equipment, and takes steps to solve issue if possible
Correctly completes work orders and documents
Maintains a clean and safe work environment to ensure safety and compliance
Complies with company policies, procedures, and standards of ethics and integrity
Perform additional duties as assigned
Operate and inspect mechanical equipment to diagnose defects
Analyze malfunctions and perform general overhaul, tune up or preventive maintenance of equipment
Dismantle and reassemble equipment
Plan work procedure using charges, technical manuals and experience
Enter labor lines and parts into repair order computer system
React to change productivity and handle other essential tasks as assigned
Minimum Requirements:
Two years' verifiable experience in tractor and trailer inspection and repair OR a technical school degree, or certification in Heavy Duty Truck/Trailer Maintenance with one verifiable experience
A valid state-issued driver's license
Must pass DOT physical and drug screen
A CDL, ASE and State and/or Federal inspection certification is preferred but not required
Command of English language to communicate effectively with internal and external customers
Knowledge of methods, materials, tools and techniques used in the repair and maintain a variety of heavy trucks and semi-trailers and other mechanical equipment is required
Basic hand tools are required
Must have working knowledge of the operating principles of diesel engines and repair of heavy trucks
Ability to maintain detailed time and parts used on work orders
Must possess excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills to communicate to both internal and external customers
Computer skills needed for diagnostics
Working Conditions/Physical Requirements:
Medium work: exerting up to 50 pounds of force frequently to lift, push, pull, or otherwise move objects
Subject to both internal and external environmental conditions
Subject to: standing, climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching and reaching
