UTHealth Houston is seeking a Systems Administrator to join the Database & Application Support team within DCO. This team focuses on the design, implementation, and support of clinical, enterprise, and departmental-level application systems. Primary responsibilities include server and database administration, cloud operational support, content management system administration, application systems and support, systems integration and automation, business intelligence, and working closely with application owners to assist with performance tuning, troubleshooting installations, and upgrades. The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (UTHealth Houston) is the most comprehensive academic health center in the UT System. Data Center Operations (DCO), under the direction of the Infrastructure Team at UTHealth Houston, operates the university's primary data centers for the organization. DCO also administers standards for multiple data centers that are a part of the UTHealth campus. DCO is comprised of three primary areas: Infrastructure & Operational Support, Database & Application Support, and Data Center and Infrastructure. Responsible for the day-to-day activities related to system stability, reliability, and security. Position Key Accountabilities: Utilizes appropriate procedures and processes necessary to ensure the safety and integrity of organizational servers, data systems, file structures, computer operating systems, and computer system software. Installs, maintains, configures, and upgrades UNIX operating systems to improve the reliability, safety, and performance of the system. Works with Network Security Analyst to ensure security and integrity of computer operating systems and supporting software by detecting hackers and ensuring remote access is encrypted. Ensures data/media recoverability by implementing a schedule of system backups and database archive operations in conjunction with the Disaster Recovery & Security Analyst. Performs basic and intermediate-level shell and kernel programming and testing. Conducts studies of projected enhancements in hardware and software and presents recommendations to management. Conducts performance measurement and evaluation of the servers to ensure Service Level Agreements (SLA) are met. Implements security and disaster recovery according to established standards, policy, and guidelines. Participates in all phases of total system planning and in the generation of justifications and specifications for facility requirements and enhancements. Implements system software projects. Presents technical briefings. Performs other duties as assigned. Ability to configure and administer diverse servers and computer operating systems. Familiar with WEB technology, database concepts, and networking. Bachelor's degree, training in information technology or related experience in lieu of education. One (1) year of experience in information technology support and systems administration in diverse environments. Preferred experience with the network and server hardware, software, and security tools that UTHSC-H has deployed in its information technology infrastructure. Exerts up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds frequently and/or a negligible amount constantly to move objects. This position is a security-sensitive position, as defined by Texas Education Code 51.215 and Texas Government Code 411.094. To the extent that a position requires the holder to research, work on, or have access to critical infrastructure as defined in Texas Business and Commerce Code 117.001(2), the ability to maintain the security or integrity of the infrastructure is a minimum qualification to be hired for and to continue to be employed in that position. Personnel in such positions, and similarly situated state contractors, will be routinely reviewed to determine whether factors such as criminal history or continuous connections to the government or political apparatus of a foreign adversary might prevent the applicant, employee, or contractor from maintaining the security or integrity of the infrastructure. A foreign adversary is a nation listed in 15 C.F.R. 791.4. Employees must permanently reside and work in the State of Texas.
