Job Summary

Dojo Gelato is hiring a hands-on Shift Manager / Keyholder for our Findlay Market shop. This is a working shift lead role — you'll be scooping gelato, running register, serving guests, and helping with espresso drinks while also leading the shift and handling keyholder responsibilities. This is not a "clipboard supervisor" job._ Sunday availability is required year-round. (Sundays and Mondays are historically our full-time manager's days off, so Sunday coverage is coverage-critical.)_

Weekday leadership coverage as needed: 8:30 am–6:00 pm, Tue–Fri depending on the weekly schedule

Expected weekly hours:

  • October–March: typically 12–18 hours/week (Sunday + 1–2 additional shifts)
  • April–September: typically 20–28 hours/week (Sunday + 2–3 additional shifts; may include Saturday close)

What You'll Do (Hands-On + Keyholder)

  • Lead the shift while actively working the counter
  • Scoop gelato, run register, serve guests
  • Help make espresso drinks / barista work (barista experience helpful but not required — we will train)
  • Support cleanliness, restocking, dishes, and light back-of-house tasks as needed
  • Open/close duties and checklist execution
  • Cash handling, drawer counts, end-of-shift deposit procedures
  • Coach team members in the moment and maintain hospitality standards
  • Handle customer service needs calmly and professionally
  • Communicate issues/needs clearly (Slack) to owner and/or manager, and flag supply needs

Minimum Experience & Requirements

  • 1+ year as a shift lead/keyholder/supervisor in food service or hospitality (2+ years a plus)
  • Reliable and punctual (coverage-critical role)
  • Comfortable on your feet and moving for most of the shift
  • Reliable transportation required
  • Driver's license preferred but not required (public transit is possible, but you must be consistently on time)
  • Employment is contingent on a background check. (Keyholding and cash-handling role.)

Perks

  • Tips + 20% staff discount on food/drinks
  • No evening shifts
  • No uniforms
  • Local, independent business in operation for 16+ years with clear standards and checklists with an empahsis on handcrafted foods
