Candidates with backgrounds in residential, interior fit-outs, or vertical construction will not be a fit for this role.” About the Opportunity:Our firm has been exclusively retained by a well-established and highly respected heavy construction and civil engineering company located in Suffolk County, Long Island. This firm specializes in complex infrastructure and public works projects across Long Island and has built a reputation for delivering high-quality work across roadwork, utilities, site development, drainage, and related scopes. We are seeking an experienced Senior Estimator to lead and manage the estimating process for competitive bids and negotiated work. While the company is prioritizing senior-level talent, we are also open to engaging with mid-level and high-potential junior candidates who demonstrate strong capabilities and have direct experience in the heavy construction or civil engineering sectors. Candidates must be based on Long Island. Key Responsibilities: Estimate Preparation: Lead the preparation of cost estimates and bid proposals for heavy civil projects including roadway, infrastructure, and utility work. Quantity Takeoffs: Conduct detailed takeoffs and cost analysis from engineering and construction plans. Subcontractor Coordination: Solicit and evaluate subcontractor and vendor pricing; prepare comparative analyses and recommendations. Bid Strategy: Attend site walkthroughs and pre-bid meetings; contribute to strategic bid approaches and risk assessments. Documentation & Organization: Maintain detailed bid files and support bid submissions with clearly documented pricing, scopes, and assumptions. Mentorship & Collaboration: Collaborate with project managers and executives; mentor junior estimating staff as appropriate. Candidate Profile: Experience: Senior Estimator: 8+ years in heavy civil construction estimating. Mid-Level Estimator: 4–7 years of related experience. Junior Estimator: 2–3 years with clear potential and relevant industry exposure. Note: Experience in residential, vertical commercial, or home improvement sectors will not be considered. Technical Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and InSite required. Experience with Bluebeam, AutoCAD, and HeavyBid highly desirable. Strong math and analytical skills essential. Education: Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related field preferred. Equivalent hands-on experience will be considered. Location Requirement: Candidates must live on Long Island or have a reliable daily commute to Suffolk County. Why This Opportunity?
