About

Principal Cable Design Engineer (Energy) – WSP We are looking for a senior engineer to lead technical design and delivery of high‑voltage cable projects across the UK. You will work with offshore and onshore transmission, distribution networks and modern renewable projects, collaborating with TNO’s, DNO’s, contractors and developers to ensure that our infrastructure supports the future of green energy.
A little more about your role
Provide technical leadership for the successful delivery of multi‑discipline projects.
Ensure projects are delivered in accordance with the contract to the satisfaction of the client, identifying, communicating and managing all relevant health and safety risks.
Actively develop external and internal client relationships.
Provide technical management and coordination of subcontractors and resources remote from the core project team.
Identify, assess and mitigate technical risks.
Ensure all statutory and regulatory requirements are met.
Actively participate in industry working groups such as CIGRE and IEEE.
Qualifications
Bachelors Degree in Engineering or equivalent technical discipline, preferably Electrical or Power engineering.
Extensive experience in the design, manufacture and test of HV cables for HVAC and HVDC projects onshore and offshore; including HV cable system design and ratings (CYMCAP).
Understanding of IEC cable standards and CIGRE technical policies and the capability to act as a cable expert.
Experience witnessing 3rd‑party cable activities such as testing, installation and transport.
Experience with technical committees such as CIGRE and IEEE.
Attained or working towards Chartered Engineer status.
Willingness and ability to travel as projects dictate.
