Job Description The Digital Buildings System Engineer manages the complete process of onboarding and integrating building management systems (BMS), IoT devices, and facility management solutions into a designated cloud platform. The role is platform‑agnostic and works across various hardware and software ecosystems to ensure secure, optimized data flow for real‑time analytics and remote monitoring.
Key Responsibilities
Building System Integration: assess existing BMS, HVAC, lighting, energy, and IoT devices; map and document system architecture.
Cloud Onboarding & Configuration: configure cloud infrastructure; develop data flow protocols; set up services on AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud.
Device Qualification & Testing: test, validate, and troubleshoot application drivers; support driver development with manufacturers; manage devices in an IoT testing lab.
Data Management & Security: enforce cybersecurity and data privacy policies; implement encryption, authentication, and access control.
Data Analytics & Reporting: analyze system data; prepare detailed reports on building operations; identify sustainability and operational insights.
Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement: liaise with IT, facility management, and operations teams; provide technical support and training for onsite staff.
Testing & Troubleshooting: conduct pre‑ and post‑onboarding testing; identify, troubleshoot, and resolve data transmission, system compatibility, and network connectivity issues.
Documentation & Reporting: maintain comprehensive documentation of onboarding processes and system configurations; generate regular reports on onboarding status and key metrics.
Qualifications
7+ years of experience designing and configuring building automation systems, cloud integration, or IT infrastructure.
Hands‑on experience in systems integration and related industries such as architecture, design, or construction.
Strong understanding of cybersecurity best practices for cloud integrations.
Knowledge of edge computing and data preprocessing methods for IoT systems.
Technical expertise in delivering digital and smart building projects including building controls systems, cybersecurity, device qualification, IP networking, system audits, and site surveys.
Bachelor’s degree in Controls Engineering or a related field.
Experience with BMS systems such as Niagara, Delmatic, Delta, or LoRaWAN; certifications in these are beneficial.
Cloud platform expertise in AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud, including data storage and IoT hubs; platform certifications are a plus.
