About
*Responsibilities/Typical Work Activities: *
* Screens residents to determine the need for speech therapy evaluation;
* Evaluates resident need for speech therapy services in accordance with the orders of the physician;
* Develops plans of care for residents as they pertain to speech and language pathology services;
* Confers with the physician and other members of the interdisciplinary staff to determine the development of the residents’ plan of care;
* Provides speech therapy services to residents in accordance with the physician orders and/or plan of care;
* May provide in-service training to staff members regarding speech and language pathology and resident communication;
* Maintains proper records and documentation for all evaluations, treatments, consultations, progress notes;
* May participate in the development of facility policies and procedures.
*Full Performance, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Personal Characteristics: *
* Good knowledge of the principles, techniques and practices of the discipline of speech therapy;
* Good knowledge of the pathological conditions and psychosocial factors that may affect a resident's clinical condition;
* Working knowledge of professional and community resources applicable to the practice of speech and language pathology;
* Ability to plan and complete work in a timely and efficient manner;
* Ability to work well with others;
* Physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.
*Minimum Qualifications: *
* Graduation from an accredited and registered college or university with a master’s degree in speech and language pathology.
* Current license and registration by the State of New York Department of Education as a speech therapist.
*Special Requirement: *
* Certificate of clinical competence in speech and language pathology (CCC-SLP).
