About
ABC Equipment Rental and Sales is seeking a skilled and experienced *Construction Equipment Technician & Diesel Mechanic* to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for the diagnosis, repair, preventative maintenance, and overhaul of heavy construction equipment, diesel engines, and related components. This role requires expertise in both mechanical and electrical systems, a strong commitment to safety, and the ability to work independently or as part of a team in a shop or field setting.
Key Responsibilities
* *Diagnosis & Repair:* Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair complex mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems on a variety of heavy construction equipment (e.g., excavators, loaders, dozers, cranes, graders, rollers, compactors, aerial lifts, heavy trucks, etc.).
* *Engine Maintenance:* Perform repairs, overhauls, and preventative maintenance on diesel and gasoline engines, including fuel systems, turbochargers, cooling systems, and emissions control systems.
* *Preventative Maintenance:* Execute scheduled maintenance, including oil changes, fluid checks, filter replacements, and thorough inspections to ensure equipment reliability and longevity.
* *Hydraulic Systems:* Inspect, diagnose, and repair hydraulic components such as pumps, motors, valves, cylinders, and hoses.
* *Electrical Systems:* Troubleshoot and repair complex electrical systems, including wiring harnesses, electronic controls, onboard computers, starters, alternators, and battery systems.
* *Documentation:* Accurately document all repairs, maintenance activities, parts used, and time spent on work orders using computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS).
* *Safety & Compliance:* Adhere to all company safety policies, procedures, and OSHA regulations. Ensure equipment is repaired to meet manufacturer specifications and safety standards.
* *Field Service:* May be required to perform on-site field repairs and travel to various job sites in a company service truck.
* *Collaboration:* Communicate effectively with supervisors, parts department, and equipment operators regarding maintenance status and potential issues.
* *Tool Management:* Maintain a clean work environment and properly use, secure, and account for company tools and equipment.
Qualifications
Required:
* *Education:* High school diploma or GED equivalent. Completion of a technical or vocational school program in Diesel Technology, Heavy Equipment Repair, or a related field is highly desirable.
* *Experience:* Minimum of *[3-5] years* of hands-on experience as a Diesel Mechanic or Heavy Equipment Technician, preferably with construction equipment.
* *Technical Skills:*
* Proficiency in diagnosing and repairing diesel engines and powertrains.
* Strong working knowledge of heavy equipment hydraulic and electrical systems.
* Ability to read and interpret hydraulic and electrical schematics and technical manuals.
* Familiarity with diagnostic software and tools (e.g., electronic diagnostic links).
* *Certifications/Licenses:*
* Valid Driver's License; CDL (Class A or B) is a plus.
* Possession of own hand tools and required specialized tools for the trade.
* *Physical Demands:* Must be able to lift, push, pull, or carry up to 50 lbs., stand for extended periods, and work in various weather conditions.
Preferred:
* OEM certifications (e.g., Kubota, JLG, Skyjack, Genie ) are a significant asset.
* Experience with welding and fabrication.
* Prior field service experience.
