Position Summary We are currently seeking a Network Engineer III to support secure network engineering operations within a Department of Defense test, integration, and evaluation environment. The role focuses on designing, configuring, maintaining, troubleshooting, and assessing network infrastructure for mission, lab, and engineering activities across complex environments. Strong CANES experience, including sustainment and support of CANES Hardware Variant 1.2 and 3.0 and Agile Core Services (ACS), is essential. The engineer will also contribute to integration, modernization efforts, and provide technical input during technical interchange meetings. The successful candidate will independently evaluate complex technical conditions, apply sound engineering judgment, and develop effective solutions to maintain operational continuity, support mission objectives, and meet cybersecurity and compliance requirements.
Responsibilities
Configure, maintain, troubleshoot, and assess network infrastructure supporting CANES Hardware 1.2, Software 3, CANES Hardware 3, Software 5, and Agile Core Services (ACS).
Support CANES and ACS sustainment, system maintenance, troubleshooting, technical refresh, and operational readiness within an established baseline.
Support integration, testing, validation, and fielding of new CANES capabilities and added functionality into existing environments.
Configure and troubleshoot routed and switched network infrastructure in a CANES environment, including routing, switching, VLANs, segmentation, and secure enclave connectivity.
Support boundary defense, secure transport, and access control technologies used alongside CANES, such as firewalls, IDS/IPS, TACLANE or VPN‑type encryption, and related secure communications controls.
Support ADNS sustainment, troubleshooting, baseline management, and configuration changes required to support operational needs and potential project efforts.
Support virtualization and infrastructure platforms impacting CANES operations, including VMware, ESXi, vCenter, Hyper‑V, Windows Server, and Red Hat Enterprise Linux, as applicable.
Analyze technical issues, determine root cause and operational impact, and implement effective corrective actions to maintain operational continuity and mission support.
Produce and maintain technical documentation, including diagrams, configurations, implementation details, interface documentation, troubleshooting guides, and engineering support records.
Attend technical interchange meetings and other engineering forums and provide subject‑matter expertise where applicable.
Collaborate with cybersecurity, systems administration, engineering, and leadership teams to support mission, compliance, and integration requirements.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualification and Educational Requirements Required:
Bachelor’s degree in networking, computer science, cybersecurity, information systems, or a closely related discipline.
OR
Equivalent specialized knowledge customarily acquired through a combination of military training, formal technical instruction, certifications, and substantial progressively responsible practical experience performing work of comparable scope, complexity, and independent judgment.
Security+ (DoD IAT Level II) or ability to meet requirements within six months of employment.
CCNA (or higher).
This position requires an existing U.S. Government DoD granted security clearance/eligibility at the final Secret level, a favorably adjudicated T5/T5R background investigation, and U.S. citizenship. Individuals must maintain security requirements for continued employment.
Experience Required:
Minimum 6 years of progressively responsible experience in network engineering, network administration, or network operations within a DoD, enterprise, lab, test, or other complex technical environment.
Hands‑on experience implementing, configuring, troubleshooting, and sustaining network infrastructure, including routing, switching, VLANs, secure enclave connectivity, firewalls, ACS, TACLANEs, or other encryption devices, and related boundary defense technologies.
Experience supporting CANES architecture, sustainment, troubleshooting, and integration activities, including work associated with CANES Hardware Variant 1.2 and 3.0.
Experience supporting ADNS, including troubleshooting, baseline management, and implementation of configuration changes, or demonstrated ability to quickly learn ADNS architecture and apply that knowledge in support of operational and project requirements.
Experience analyzing complex network environments, evaluating technical issues, determining root cause and operational impact, and developing effective solutions to support operational, integration, and test objectives.
Experience applying cybersecurity and compliance requirements within operational environments, including STIGs, vulnerability remediation, RMF, and ATO support.
Experience producing technical documentation and communicating network status, risks, recommendations, and implementation details clearly to internal stakeholders and customers.
Preferred:
Experience supporting classified and unclassified enclaves in Navy, MDA, NIWC Pacific, or other DoD test, fleet, or laboratory environments.
Experience supporting CANES technical refresh, modernization, or added capability efforts within an existing baseline.
Experience with Program of Record, GOTS, and COTS technologies such as ADNS, CANES, TACLANEs, VoIP/VTC, or similar network systems.
Experience supporting integration, testing, validation, or fielding of new CANES capabilities in lab, test, or operational environments.
Experience with ACAS, Nessus, SCAP, eMASS, VRAM, CeDAR, or other RMF and ATO support tools and processes.
Experience supporting VMware, ESXi, vCenter, Hyper‑V, Windows Server, Red Hat Enterprise Linux, or related infrastructure platforms.
CCNP, DoD IAT Level III, or other advanced network or cybersecurity certifications.
