Capital One’s Business Cards & Payments Data Science team empowers smarter predictions across the full customer lifecycle. As director, you will lead a team that designs and deploys advanced machine learning solutions backed by robust data infrastructure and rich behavioral signals to help people save time, money, and improve their financial lives. Role Responsibilities
Partner with cross‑functional teams of data scientists, software engineers, and product managers to deliver products that customers love. Leverage a wide stack of technologies – Python, Conda, AWS, H2O, Spark, and more – to uncover insights hidden within vast volumes of numeric and textual data. Build machine learning models through all development phases: design, training, evaluation, validation, and implementation. Translate model complexity into tangible business goals and clear outcomes for stakeholders. The Ideal Candidate

Currently holding or in the process of obtaining one of the following degrees, with the required degree obtained by the start date:
Bachelor’s in a quantitative field plus 9 years of data analytics experience. Master’s or MBA with a quantitative emphasis plus 7 years of data analytics experience. PhD in a quantitative field plus 4 years of data analytics experience.
At least 4 years of experience with open‑source programming languages for large‑scale data analysis. At least 4 years of experience working with machine learning. At least 4 years of experience utilizing relational databases. Preferred Qualifications
PhD in a STEM field plus 5 years of data analytics experience. At least 1 year of experience with AWS. At least 3 years of people‑management experience. At least 5 years of experience in Python, Scala, or R for large‑scale data analysis. At least 5 years of experience with machine learning. Compensation
Salary ranges: McLean, VA – $269,100 to $307,200; New York, NY – $293,600 to $335,100 for Director, Data Science. Pay is location‑specific. The role is eligible for performance‑based incentives, including cash bonuses and/or long‑term incentives, and a comprehensive benefits package. Employment & EEO
